Also (unlike the “Duxford diary” thread) you can have an opinion here; what a good idea, bring it on!

    “the sharks will be circling”

I started a thread titled Sharks are circling,(which was a “where has the Orkney spitfire wing thread gone” question) and promptly had it closed by a moggerator, so I expect nothing less from this one.

Personally I think that the thread in question had a tendency to bring out the worst in people, who started to feel duped, and slightly insulted, and thus returning fire, aimed squarely at the OP, it was most likely an exercise in trolling, and quite effective it was as well.

I have no beef with that Trumper, but it was obviously a moderator that removed my post, and it is the moderators that tirelessly remind us that there can be no advertising on the forum, and if you remove the discussion, then what is left?

As many have said before, an excellent job, with the utmost attention to detail; (I particularly like the grease on the prop hub) on another note I see my post on replica/FSM has been removed, without the opportunity for discussion, this thread is just one big (free) advertisement.

[I”A dumb idea to remove the quote facility on an HISTORIC forum if I may say so.” ][/I]

Just a safeguard put into place to protect certain members form an outright ban, for continually quoting a comment so that their reply might have some context….

I agree with CD, to increase the spar thickness by a gauge (or more) would be insignificant in terms of weight gain, easily offset by removing gun internals (if fitted) and if not it’s already lighter; win,win

Hey Tom, that really looks the business, it’s almost leggo (in a giants toy box kind of way) what does it cost to produce individual sections?

[QUOTE=Wings43;2330787]Managers and consultants are professionals? How are they not?[/QUOTE

When they don’t understand the subject; all too frequently managers are brought in to manage an issue within an environment that they know nothing about, consultants offer advice based on the problem you put before them, that could be low visitor numbers, or low turnover / profit, and there is a “business” model for museums that is easy to fall back on which speaks of interactive displays, ethnic inclusion, schools, cafeteria and shop standardisation etc, none of which makes a blind bit of difference.
A fundamental flaw with Hendon is it’s location, it’s a crap place to get too, and the local population have no links to or interest in the BoB or indeed the exploits of the RAF in general; in my view Hendon is the museum’s equivalent of a dead man walking.

Hey Elliot, give it a try, it might work, I’d be interested (not that I’ve got much to trade)

Would anyone join if we set up a group on Facebook? It has to be better than ebay…

I doubt that any development will be a balanced mix of residential and industrial / retail, and so it is difficult to see how by building more houses the current level of deprivation will change; jobs need to come first, not just another council trying to build “it’s quota” of housing.

The mk I-V legs had an internal spline to keep the wheels in line, the mk VII’s had a trailing link the mk IX’s had a leading link, the undercarriage doors were different in each case; the mk I pintle is 1/8″ thinner on the bearing journals, and the rake on the mk IX’s was accomplished by an angled shim between the pintle and the spar.

As I understand it TDL and GB Replicas moulds are one and the same, taken (from memory) from a Belgian museum Spitfire.
