Reading through the patent application, it would appear that he invented the nose wheel u/c……. K5054 was originally fitted with a tail skid, and the main gear was a variation of a patented idea, filed jointly by Vickers and RS Dickson circa 1933.

“He invented the Spitfire undercarriage when living in West Drayton, Middlesex when working for Maclaren Undercarriage Company Ltd. The design allowed aircraft to be steered or swivelled whilst on the ground”

    He invented the wheel?

“along with the absence of any ticking sounds”

I know that the Germans have a reputation for quality workmanship, but to expect it to still be ticking after 70 years…..

I think that if you have to deal with the local council, armed to the teeth with risk assessments and enviromental impact projections,it would be better to leave it to someone else with deep pockets……

‘We call her the Maid of Harlech after the magnificent 13th century Welsh castle, but until she is can be rescued from the sands of time, her actual location must remain confidential”

Knowing where it is, would be a start; has a license been granted?

I can’t say I agree with that sort of thing, but I admire your honesty.

“Similarly, half a dozen nutters with a bag of fertiliser have managed to turn the justice system upside down. They didn’t vote either. They made it happen all by themselves.”

That’s no way to talk about the National farmers union…….

I think that would be reasonable, last time I tried to get a seat for 1 of mine, it was ‘ a fowesand pound mate! ‘

I think you’ll find thats “a fowesand pand” ; still you could always make one, it only took me a month……

Can anyone confirm that Mark Knopfler at one time owned Spitfire Mk.XVI TE184? I’ve heard it mentioned that he was the true owner of the aircraft while it was officially registered to Alain de Cadenet.

I heard that as well; can’t remember who told me, perhaps it was you?
