Exactly right and for someone who has collected stuff like yourself you can talk the talk and walk the walk.It is very much our special little club.:diablo:
Only the insane ones need apply.Best of luck mate with whatever you achieve.:D
Oh we’re just one big happy family….
With regards to the FSM, they don’t need hangaring, or insuring, or annuals, and you can paint them whatever colour you want, without pages and pages on forums (such as this) deliberating what shade of meduim sea grey was used by 601 sqn between late ’41, and mid ’42 etc, etc; best of both worlds buy a FSM to look at, and fly spam.
Thanks for your replies.
Is Kynoch a manufacturers name then?
I seem to remember that Kynoch (later Eley-Kynoch) used to have a factory out on the marshes in Essex; maybe Ptsea?
Most aeroplanes (like many things in life) are a compromise, the ones that are not tend to be more efficient at their specified task, and, more aesthetically pleasing; form follows function, and then some.
Nice to see a sense of humour is not lost on here
Not lost, just misplaced…..
Nice to see you had an uneventfull event.
Anyone see Springsteen at Glastonbury? a real icon, far from wearing a face mask he’s out there with the fans, no surgery, no drugs; and I believe there is no contractual requirement to constantly refer to him as “the boss”……

Spitfire 43cm (outside dimension)
Mustang 45 cm
Hurricane 41cmIf anyone larffs, I am actually restoring 3 diff seats at the mo so they are to hand as it were…!!:)
Do you take in work, as my 3 piece has a nasty rip…..
It’s worth remembering with firearms that “horses for courses” is phrase most applicable, a .38 pistol round will kill you just as certainly as a rifle at short range, which is what the weapon was designed to do; in close quarter fighting I’d rather a pistol than a rifle.
If two soldiers carrying rifles approached you and you were concealed with the element of suprise then the odds would be in your favour; you can loose off six shots with a Webley in the time it takes aim and fire a rifle twice and they don’t jam! (like an auto)
To lose one parent, may be regarded as a misfortune, to lose both, looks like carelessness…. sorry have I strayed off topic?
You missed out too much oil. 🙂 Usually on roller bearings though, and I’ve no idea what’s in Sally B’s engines.
I only wield spanners on my own car but I can’t imagine qualified engineers not checking the whole system thoroughly after the same failure twice, even if they didn’t after the first time.
That’s exactly what I said in response to ZRX61’s post…..
Let me be the first to acknowledge that when ZRX61 posted something (a year or so ago) along the lines that they may need to clean out some of the pipework and oil coolers, he may have been on to something….
I can see only 3 reasons why a main bearing has failed,(again) not enough oil, plenty of oil but too many contaminates, or else the bearing was faulty when assembled; 3 reasons but no excuses.
I don’t know what amazes me the most, the fact that they left the upkeep mine at Reculver, (being top secret and all) or the fact that it was found all those years later; was it in that condition or has it been restored?
Yes, does look to have a rounded butt and be a Webley rather than an Enfield.
Lanyard arrangement like that was common practice in Army usage, although more often seen in army field usuage seen hooped around the right shoulder under the fastened epaulet, then under the button down flap of the tunic/BD blouse.
I’m more interested in that dark triangle area on his right upper arm at the shoulder….??
I can’t think what insignia is that or was that, that maybe has been blanked out by a censor…?Love the exhaust on the AJS 😀
I’m with you on the exhaust, not just a fish tail, a whole dover sole!
When I was looking for a .38 Webley, I did see on offer, one or two that were marked “RAF”; all said and done there’s not much difference between a webley and an Enfield , as previously stated the “tankers” Enfield was spurless, but that made it double acting only,(and the heavy pull made it less accurate) both are much smaller than you would think, (almost like a toy) and would fit inside a tunic side pocket.
