    I was just wonderin what condition the E-1s airframes were in. Was thinking the E-1 airframe (stripped down and re-equiped with turboprops and modern avionics of course) would have been a little more amenable to a modern airborne radar system………But it sounds like the are beyond economic recovery.

    Iv never understood why the Russians didnt put cats on their CV. They arent the most complicated things in the world after all, and the bennifit the would add would more than compensate for their development costs……

    Could both the Rafale M and the F/A-18E/F launch using the ramp rather than a steam catapult?

    Why would you want to do that? If you are going to invest the money to build a platform big enough to operate those types………how much more could cats possibly add to it?

    SKorea navy ship sinking in waters near NKorea

    South Korea’s military scrambled naval vessels to the western waters near the disputed maritime border with North Korea late Friday after an explosion ripped a hole in the bottom of a military ship, officials and news reports said.

    The ship – reported to have 104 crew on board – began sinking off the coast of South Korean-controlled Baengnyeong Island close to North Korea around 10:45 p.m. (1345 GMT, 9:45 a.m. EDT), an official at the Joint Chiefs of Staff said, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with department policy.

    The whole F-35 abortion should be canned! The navy should start with a clean sheet of paper and figure out exactly what it needs. The AF could probably make do with lic. production of Typhoon.

    Cancel it and do what? Lots of people beating that drum but nobody seems to have any coherent, realistic plan for the aftermath. Seems like a stupid idea to cancel something when you have no idea what to do next.

    Typhoon would make a fine F-16 replacement. As for the navy………more more super bugs, of course, and……….hmmmmmm

    The whole F-35 abortion needs to be cancelled! History is not on its side. The last “joint” combat aircraft turned out to be a VERY fine bomber, and nothing else.

    It is IMPOSSIBLE to have a real competition, so the concept should be thrown out. Its great in theory……but it just doesnt work. The losing side will ALLWAYS protest that it had the better offer. You simply WILL NOT have an Airbus or Boeing executive admiting that the other guys service is superior…….so……(as we see in the KC-135 replacement) we end up with ENDLESS (and harmful) litigation.

    Just a feeling, an inherent dislike, a lack of faith in European manufacturers, a psychic vision…back up what you say.

    Oh YES!!!!!!!!! Say something bad bout A400 and you have to back it up! Say something good about it…..and it the GOSPEL! No proof needed! Hypocrasy……thou art european!:diablo:
