Vympel, what is the current developmental status of “Region” developed GPS bombs ?
I havent heard anything new since MAKS 03. I suspect we’ll find out at MAKS 05 🙂
12 missiles only? that’s kinda crap isn’t it? 🙁
You design strategic deterrent weapons to fit your requirements, not some external standard as to what is good/crap. Russia and the US signed the SORT agreement, which means by 2012 they have to have 1,700-2,200 warheads each, a significant reduction over what they have now. 12 Boreys with 12 tubes, each with MIRVs, makes up a sizeablle chunk of that warhead number. Factor in the land-based ICBM force, and the air force Tu-95MSM and Tu-160s, that’s your warheads right there.
Jane’s Missiles and Rockets has been cited by articles as stating that the Borey-class will carry 20 SLBMs. We don’t know, but either should be adequate.
I posted about this new 4.4t ICBM some time ago- as I said then, this new missile they’re planning is obviously a replacement for the SS-24 SCALPEL. Just as the Topol-M is the modernized, all-Russian replacement for the Soviet Topol, this new one will be a modernized, all-Russian replacement for the Soviet Molodets, which was produced entirely in Ukraine.
935 was the Borey designation before the re-design happened. It was re-designed when the Bark SLBM program was cancelled, 955 is the Bulava compatible version.
That drawing of the Borey is also horribly inaccurate, I don’t know who’s responsible for it.
The third picture is a US Naval Intelligence estimation, take it with a grain of salt. As you can see, the other two are of Russian origin, the second one being an actual model.
This story is false.

As I’ve been saying for a while, I never believed that Russia would lease Akulas to India, and Mr Ivanov confirmed it for me 🙂
The Russian Navy is planning a new aircraft carrier after 2010.
That’s the Sankt Petersburg, which is 677 Lada-class, it’s for the Russian Navy, noone else. 🙂

Edefenseonline reported just the other month (I posted it up here) that the MiG-29 upgrade will be going ahead after all.
As for the Su-27SM upgrade, it’ll be almost 30 aircraft by the end of this year, not 2007. There are 8 aircraft currently and 20 being upgraded this year, IIRC. Either way the Su-27SM program is coming along very well.
and the engines?
Seperate upgrade program. Objective= 137kN. Desigation, AL-31FM2.
ITAR-TASS also had a picture of the painted aircraft.
No, they can’t.
If you’re correct in the context of which you’re speaking, it’s actually not strictly true anymore- MAKS 03 showed a MiG-29SMT prototype with an ECM pod fitted to one of its hardpoints.
The Slava is 25% of it’s potential without its Bazalt (SS-N-12 SANDBOX) missiles, and those aren’t allowed to be exported.
It strikes me as odd they’d talk about the Lada and then put a Kilo cross-section there- unless it’s just an uber-Kilo whoose external appearance need not be changed?
Hmmm Vympel never expected that kind of response!?:-(…..Yours,Harry’s,google’s articles were great source of knowledge….and added a lot to my collection.

How so? It’s unfortunate, but I can’t participate as much as I used to- sorry mate. I meant no offence.
