Indeed. In my place, a canadian soldier has died in the arms of one of our priests. Therefor we have a ceremony each year for those thousands canadians died in my region.

Why should a whole region (the Middle East) be transformed for a tiny country which does not want to adapt itself? I’d say it’s time for Israel to make concessions or move their country elsewhere.

What? You have to be born in the US to become president? Damn. There goes my job.

Phantom, I think China didn’t really oppose this war. They did not threaten with a veto, unlike France or Russia, their minister of foreign affairs didn’t made a trip to convince other security council members to vote against the second resolution. I think this is the nature of the Chinese, be diplomatic, try to avoid as much troubles by staying out of others affairs. China did not have military or political ties with Iraq, hence they did not really care about what’s going to happen. I even think they were glad Saddam was gone. But ofcourse, China can not just agree with the US. It’s Confusius vs Aristotle :).
I wonder what would happen if it would have been Iran instead of Iraq who was on the target list. China has a military cooperatinship with Pakistan AND Iran. But even here, I don’t see China supporting one of these countries openly. China is smart enough to avoid a military conflict with the US.
The Chinese, unlike the West, try to see things more in a long perspective. While France and the US were busy with eachother, China was just a neutral party. Actually this is the best, if they want to become a superpower. A conflict with the US (politically and economically) could mean an end to China’s growing prosperity. Also, China was not invited on the Franco-Germo-Russian summit in St.Petersburg.
And I’ll explain you why one EU- with an army could have – maybe not avoided -but influenced America’s decision. If a country is going to war, it has to take care that it doesn’t upset other countries in that region. Look at what the US has done to Turkey, a regional superpower and NATO’s second largest army! Turkey had a say in the fall of the city of Tikrit, and Turkey got the deal that no Peshara’s (right) would take over the cities in Nothern Iraq. If the EU would have been a military power, the US would take notice of it. Now, the EU is militarilly too dependent on the US/NATO. France damn well knows it can not close its airspace for US airplanes, France does not want to lose an ally. And this frustrates many Europeans, though, and I blame OUR gov’ts for this, we can do something about it, but nobody wants to. A NATO where the North-American and the European armed forces would be balanced would work a lot better. There’s a future for NATO, only if the Eurocrats start thinking about a reasonable defence instead of Audi’s and 10000 dollar showers.
Anyway, the public opinion is changing rapidly in Europe. Germany and Belgium want to restore relations with the US. Germany because it’s economy is a mess, Belgium because there are federal elections within 3 weeks, and the pro-American conservatives are about to win this one, and throw the socialists out of it. The conservatives oppose Belgium’s position in this war, first of all because of domestic reasons. The Flemish part feels more related to Holland, the Walloon part to France. Now they blame the Walloon Minister of foreign affairs of letting Belgium look like a foolish country. This is BS, however, our gov’t should have been more carefully.
This probably means you won’t see Belgium opposing any US decission for the next 20 years. France will also change their course, Mr. De Villepin has said. “We wanted the same goal as the US, only by other means.” is now a much heard sentence in Europe. Nobody would have expected such a fast victory.

AC/DC and Zeppelin?? Just admit you’re going to watch Johnny English for that hot Kangoo Nathalie what’s her name again? 😀 (I just whish Iwas that Torn-guy)
I didn’t say the US institutions were not British, but the philosophers who came up with the idea of a “Land of freedom” are French, not British. The American Revolution was actually a test for the French, and some decades later they also started their own, more bloody conflict to have a state very similar to the US. Unfortunatelly, it turned out to be something totally different and for 50 more years France would still be ruled by dictators.
And one thing that seems to unite Europeans : football and hooliganism. Ahh what’s nicer than a fight between English and German football fans in Brussels with the Bro-Hymn playing on the background. Especially when our police was using their brand new watercannons. What would European football be without the English. NATO keeping peace in Europe, right: UEFA!

Well, I still have two weeks before I have to hand it in. But it’s not our primary task to find him.
His name : GERMAIN, LOUIS, based at Yorkshire. He flew with the RAF, 40-43 in N-Africa and from 44 on missions above Germany and France.
He was a navigator on the Halifax
