What makes you think I didn’t???!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 😉
PS….The caption in my album to the cockpit shot is “I’ll take this one!”
Nice to see a shot of this one- she now resides at Doncaster, back on her wheels.
Wasn’t thinking about it flying, but running up etc would’ve been good!
I hadn’t watched the whole film so I assumed it was a flyer- my appologies. Having finally got to watch the whole film I am truly gobsmacked!!!!!
Every museum should have a model or two like this.
For starters it would have to be any single seat Meteor(616 sqn colours naturally), the Defiant,Vickers Wellington T.10 at Hendon, Arco’s Lysander, Mosquito,Beaufighter,Shackleton,Typhoon & Tempest.
Then one of the two B24’s,B29,P38 & P40.
The He III or a Casa III, Fw 190 two seat, Ju87, Ju88, Me 110 & Fiat CR-42.
Any of the preserved Japanese aircraft.
Finally on the Jet side, F4J, Mig 15, Javelin, TSR2, Valiant, & Sabre.
The CAA’s function is changing with EASA so by 2025 who knows?
As has been said, aircraft evolve with ever increasing degrees of complexity. I would assume that if say a Tornado or F15 was operated, it would be part of a publicly funded memorial flight.
I envisage that by 2025 because we have a vibrant cottage industry restoring and maintaining WW2 warbirds like the Spitfire and Mustang, which likely doesn’t need as much manpower or money, that these types will still be flying whilst many successors will be consigned to museums and the scraphead.
So the “campaign against aviation” is to become “everyone’s against s**ding aviation” is it? 😮 – lets hope not!!!!!!
😡 At the Mo i want to do a rear panel, I know where i can get a meteor too, and nearly had it ,but the Bloody top brass wouldnt allow it, the F8 at sennybridge, planes shot to bits but the cockpit could be saved,
I am actively seeking a cockpit, but it has to be a single seater, and it has to be a Meteor(Drool, i wish ) Vampire , Venom, or a early Hunter, But its like banging my head aginst the wall, as when i got the money, theres no one willing to sell, and when i have no money three pop up at once , bloody mr bad luck, Ive even gone so far as to research crashed ones, and obtain a licence for a recovery, (loads in the hole) it was a bale out ,Bloody bangin me head against a wall, How many others feel like that out there, and then theres some people with Whole collections who just keep getting Bigger a Bigger !!, Leave some for the little people eh ,,
Cheers
Chris C
oh and as for that meteor, vampire, hunter, seahawk, etc etc, Ahem (preserved0/Dumped, at a Farm in Birlingham, well its criminal, i keep looking at it and Just the chance to own one of them, would be a lifetimes ambition,
but its not illegal to buy a plane and let it rot, or so they keep telling me,
even the poor old Vampire there has collapsed !!!
😡
one word, “Gutted”,
Do we know what Mark of Meteor? I .can’t quite reslove the Tailplane & cockpit on the G.E. image. Better still, if it’s an F.8 Has anyone got an address?
What a waste!- all the hours that went into getting it to actually work only to have it on static display
It would have been a greater waste if it had flown & crashed, still IT is one fantastic model- I just wish it was in our museum.
Anyone know who’s got it though?
Why not have a look fot the Meteor on Goggle Earth, at least this might give you an idea if its still recognisable and its possible location, bearing in mind the quality of the photos of that area and when they were taken.
My own local airfield is covered in cloud in Goggle earth so we need an update!;)
I keep looking, but the Senneybridge area is yet to be updated on my version (its the freebie-cheapskate I know:D ) but I shall keep trying.
This is how she looked in May 1987. I havn’t been to that part of the range since. In fact, the last time I was on Sennybridge was 1991 I think.
Ok that’s just what I was looking for!!!!!!, now I know someone else is interested but how do I go about trying to aquire this old girl?
I have looked at the ATE website only to find there are 3 sites under the same umberella of Sennybridge ATE so, a) which site is the Meteor on, b) does anyone have the co-ordinates where the aircraft is?
Anyhow thanks to everyone for the info so far.
regards Rad.
I believe Newark Air Museum may have some lengths of FIDO piping, but that is all I know of.
There are two concrete square bits that could either be ventilation shafts of entrances to the bunker thing.
There are a few other bits at Bircham Newton I am not sure on which are below, can anyone help with these as well?
The rest of my Bircham Newton photos are here;

The building with the part buff coloured walls & 4 columns looks like an armoury.
Hello folks,
She flew a sortie yesterday and today for air-to-airs for a forthcoming book to be launched at Legends, we hope. All went well and you should be seeing her on the ‘circuit’ this season in her new/old colours.
Tom
It is nice to see her with a stock prop instead of the 4 blade one. I have fond memories of sitting in her around my 23rd birthday at the British Grand prix in 1987 ( I was there as a fireman for the aircraft side of things & she had to land there with Mag problems after doing a display)-cracking race though, it was when Nigel Mansell broke the track record umpteem times..then won.
Spot-on!
D-IDEL ex- TX247 ANSON C19 Aero Exploration Frankfurt 22 Jul 1959.Also with it was D-IEHL ex- TX252
Jim
Well knock me sideways…….as I said it was a guess, deducted from a) the aircraft reg, B) the Volkswagen mini van inthe background & c) 1959 was the year that came to mind.
Oh for gawds sake….. all these sat’ images were taken years ago… literally !!
The Phantom is (was) F-4J(UK) ZE361, scrapped in 2001.
EDIT: And for the teenagers amongst us… yes CORGI did make a model of it.
.
OK the images may have been taken years ago, but it is on Google Earth for all to see…..Literally:D
OK Gentlemen
Should we not be discussing how we are going to raise the miserly sum of £150,000 to get the old girl up flying rather than discussing the pros and cons as to what went wrong 20 years ago. both accidents have been weel documented and disected over the years, and all to the same conclusion,
I am certain the Blenheim will not be a one flight wonder money pit and as before grace the skies for many years.
I agree, to discuss the pro’s & con’s of pilot ability is superfluous given that when first produced, like many other aircraft of the time there were no trainers, instructors or simulators to assist- the pilot read his notes & got on with it – like-wise with the Blenheim today. The few that have the experience have enduered the lessons the hard way, picked themselves up & learned.
A good start to funding might be to add a couple of quid to the entry price of the flying displays & events at Duxford then put the extra money to the project.
The museum in question will not allow photographs. I may have some somewhere as I was there at Dymnchurch Redoubt when it came ashore.
Is this the same museum which had photo’s of some of its FSM Hurricanes on one of its leaflets:rolleyes:  – very similar to the photo on page 121 W&R No 18?
