The Vampire and Venom have a small amount in them as we found out when we purchased one from the IWM and
had to go through hoops to be able to move it.

    BUYER BEWARE

ex-film ‘Messerschmitt‘ now slashed in price to £7K….

    .

I used to own this aircraft ex G-BAYV and F-OTAN-6 it crash landed after the pilot had one to many in the bar prior to take off with his mates .It suffered severe damage to the fuselage nose end and one of the wings. I carried out minimal repairs to make it an externally reasonable static.I also painted it in spurious German markings. To My knowledge IT NEVER APPEARED IN ANY FILM AND DEFINITELY NOT 633.I have photo’s of all the repair work also post crash an dit being in my garage when I lived in Manchester. It then went from Manchester Barton to Bygone times at Wigan and was sold to a business man near Bolton it stayed with him for some years before being sold about 18 months ago to someone down south.I know the seller is selling it on behalf of someone else but it appears the current owner is being economical with the facts/truth. The aircraft also had its engine and propellor with it(engine badly shock loaded with severe cracks in top of crank case and prop well bent nose undercarriage mounts on engine structure that was also badly damaged). The cockpit is a total wreck having been robbed by vandals.Prior to me owning it the aircraft was owned by the Friends of Biggin Hill. Any interested party please mail me and I am happy to dig out all the photo’s I have.If it had the engine with it still you might scrape £3-4k but the asking price I would think is a little high unless you really wanted one.I did consider taking out all the rear fuselage spaces and trying to build a me109 rear end but the differences and amount of work did not justify it.

It was I think one of the four or five airframes purchased by Alan Whitt some of them moved to Barton aerodrome.Hi idea was to build an airworthy airframe from the many bits he had. Some of the airframes (two I think) ended their days at Huddersfield and where scrapped after a disagreement over storage after he left them behind.MHAS used some parts in the rebuild of their Vampire that was for a while gate guard at Barton but as to which parts and airframes I cannot recall exactly hope that this helps.

after having a look at their web site and the life time membership fee of £10 I cant see how realistically they expect a one off donation of £10 to give anywhere near enough funding for the project.Or am I missing something ??

I dont think if all the population of the uk put £10 into the pot they would have enough money.Like other contibutors who have responded to this thread I think that getting a concorde back into the air is highly unlikely as I understood they butchered them internaly to make sure they could never fly again chopping major systems etc. Also where are the spares coming from the Vulcanteam have enough trouble finding viable engines where are they goingto find Olympus engines with re heat for a concorde plus spares. I think the project will get so many obstacles thrown at it by british and european aviationauthorities as to be bogged down in paperwork well into the next century look at all the mods and problems getting them re certified to fly again after the Paris accident. I wish them well but think the idea of a flying airframe is on a hiding to nothing right from the word go no matter how many very rich persons want to throw 36 million into the pot.with respect i think that £36 million invested in other areas of our aviation heritage can and would do a great more good.

A couple of loaded up Mirage jets low and slow over Ripon, going into Leeming I would guess followed by Herc.

There have been two major exercises on in last week or so and 6 mirage V have been operating in and out of Leeming including one that was all white nose and two thirds blue rear end interesting scheme. Also two Hercs and a skyvan

Watching them operate all week from our workshops under end of approach.

also a mix of Tonka’s and hawks. and Eurofleas

This is why I thought the firing order plate might be Perigrine ,because it came with this peregrine plate ,unfortunately the top half that would say Rolls Royce has been cut off.

The challenges begin way before getting in the water. Sidescan sonar can find a fleck of fly crap on the seabed, but just towing a sonar around a random area is just a good way to burn diesel and find nothing. Once found, accurately dropping a line on a small target is a skill and the greater the depth of water the harder it is to miss. I spent 10 minutes following a anchor drag line looking for a submarine in 45m of water…I couldn’t find the sub but had swum pretty much the entire length of the submarine before I realised it was less than 10m from my right shoulder…now consider the size of a radial engine compared to a sub…visibility is severely restricted and just finding the target is a challenge.

Depth also increases the complexity of the dive. Breathing normal air at pressure (5 bar at 40m) makes the nitrogen content of air narcotic and reactions are dulled/slowed…adding helium into the mix reduces the narcotic effect but pushes the cost way up, as well as adding to the time spent decompressing before surfacing…Then there is the issue of the shipping lanes and no diver wishes to be run down by a container vessel. Bottom trawling may well have moved/trashed the remains…

Weather and tidal windows add to the complexity and its not unusual to wait weeks for everything to line up.

So yes, anything can be dived. Would it be easy? No…but if you have a rough idea about where to look then we can consider it as a project.

If you are looking for channel dash aircraft if you find any remains of the seven whirlwinds lost during this **** up please, please let us know we would love to be involved.

It seems our strongly worded email to this organisation has for the time being resulted in them pulling their web site to at least contemplate perhaps their image.Or at least one would hope so that a responsible and experienced company would give serious thought to their public image and PR to prospective customers instead of using as has been stated already the efforts of museums and individuals in the preservation world to portray in some way their skill base. This seems to have fallen flat on its face from the outset and the fact they are even incapable of a simple apology also says a lot for the future of this company and dealings with customers etc.
I am sure they have friends and contacts who read these postings if they do not infact already read them under the guise of members of this forum.I would hope that they would be willing to put forward a spokesperson to clarify the background to this company and to explain the B**** up in their PR or lack of.This forum is read far and wide as has been proven by the Burmese saga and the negativity they have generated so far by their unprofessional approach can do nothing for their future success.Their is not even an address or contact telephone details listed for them except a very vague pointer to Enstone airfield .

‘All those who own display only Spitfires’ ? is that a new type?

Sorry I thought the idea of all spitfires was display only in one form or another either with the birds or with the bods on the ground ??.

Or have I missed something ??
