Several ppl missing the point here.

Branding is a key factor in getting people on the hook. To replace the ppl giving up / dying, the industry has to encourage people to smoke. Mainly children aged 10 to 14. A decent packet image can sway a kid in that direction, or rather in the direction of the lifestyle that brand depicts.
This is why Ferrari F1 cars carry the Marlboro bar-code on the centre fin.

I am a smoker, trying to give up, but work is sooooooooooooooo ship at the moment, if I gave up I would eat concrete, after I’d hit somebody with it.

You tube has some real garbage on it.
You can post a really innocent video, but in the “Related videos” section on the right, there can be some things you may not wish the kids to see.
LiveLeak is even worse, exploding people (Usually Arabs at the hands of Apache guns..but equally plenty of IED’s against the US/GB troops) is a common trait on there. Not tea-time viewing.

Give the url a twirl and knock the embedd on the head.

I’ll ask my pals at Roll Royce if they can supply the data on the repairs/extra washes etc. I used to get all the data on Bird Strikes on Blades, but there was too much! At least 1 lump a day gets the benefit if slicing a bird up.

Anyway, I LoL’d at your comment about if the AL were allowed to fly they’d know where the ash was.

“Damn, there’s one down in Blue 1”
“Well don’t send the next one through there”
    “It’s Ryanair”
    “Send it”

These people have no grasp of what is realy important.

The opposite is actually true. What is really important is indeed to save the whale, ban the bomb and stop pollution.
But, the only one that can draw any sympathy in our money fed world is the Whale. I think we all want that, apart from the Japs.
Mr Bad guy has a bullet, we need a bomb, nuff said.
The Runway will be built in A.N. Other place if not London, so grab it and make money and satisfy the shareholders. That’s short-sighted. The real study should determine properly the future of air travel, the present study assumes a significant growth in Pax numbers, but disregards the seating capacity of airliners is increasing, even on the short haul. As engines become more and more efficient and aircraft become lighter, it becomes possible to make a 100 seat craft with 30 more seats for the same operational expenditure as was the case only 5 years ago.

IMO we should have – still chance to – develop the rail systems for almost all overland travel. The Germans have a new train (Frankfurt to Dusseldorf IIRC) which beats the flying time (Including all the airport checks) by a very significant amount and more people are using the train than the plane. I’m pretty sure Manchester to London is cheaper and faster by rail than plane. Taking all costs and all time into account, and you can use your phone!

Blah blah blah snipped…. IMHO its the right decision and I’m glad its happened, but how can that be anything other than a political fudge?
    Andy

Because Willie Walsh put 26 UK inbound into the air and forced their hand. Nats hand, not Brown’s. And I’d be the first to blame the Government.

If the £74M is correct, the Local NHS get 1/3rd, stuff like Air ambulance/copper chopper gets 1/3rd and the Police the last 1/3rd. Nearly £25m each per year. Most areas divvy up the bounty in this way.

As for my term in the OP. It is common parlance to use such a term when one is being ripped off or conned out of hard earned cash. The original meaning, as per my schooling, is “To sieze”.
So, in context it is just an expression. If you or a close one has just been raped, it is in bad taste and to you I apologise.
