Would they be RD45s?
What wonderful pics in that attachment !
Interesting that the pic also attached to the Caboolture Mustang details on Faceplant shows an NAA built Mustang still carrying its US markings. It quotes Queensland Air Cadets and I would be very interested to know where it was taken and when.
Same thing happened to the log books of one of Australia’s greatest wartime pilots Wing Commander Bobby Gibbes. A s-called ‘historian’ took advantage of his failing health on the excuse of ‘research’ to abscond with those log books which are national treasures let along the great deal they mean to the family. Robyn, one of his daughters, was devastated and has been trying to find them to no avail. Doubtless the *^*$#@^& who took them is sitting along in his home gloating over their illegal possession.
Also wondering if the BT.9 had the same design outer wing panels as the Wirraway – no washout. Lead to some nasty stall characteristics and perhaps why there are fixed LE slats.
Certainly looks a lot different to the Randolf AFB I have visited but the actual layout is obviously the same. Had the nickname of the “Taj Mahal” from its early days and the tile covered water tank is still a feature
Love her in the BOAC scheme. That always looked ‘elegant’ somehow…… memories as a young lad stopping my bowling run at junior cricket at Taren Point just to the south of Sydney Airport to watch a Comet approaching gleaming in polished metal and blue….. ahhhh memories…..
And another from the Antipodes…… many thanks to all for the enjoyment. Perhaps I may make Legends again this year……….
My understanding is that the canopy (after rebuild) functions far better than it did originally.
Great to see. Even better if some that have been retrieved from Israel still carried its markings…..
Not me but a good mate…. Before going on the honeymoon to NZ he was instructed “No Aviation”. Neville is an aviation fanatic. While admiring the view of Mitre Peak from the tourist ferry in Milford Sound what should hove to low and fast down the fijord…… an RAF Vulcan also admiring the view from very low level !
And I believe that after the break this year, next year shall see the return of the Old Sarum Airshow in September….. looking forward to that immensely !
To be absolutely pedantic if it was a Mk.23 it should read CAC CA-18 Mustang Mk.23 however it is a photo recon birds and so should be CAC CA-18 Mustang Mk.22. Not that I have an abiding bias towards Mustangs…..
To be absolutely pedantic it should be CAC CA-18 Mustang Mk.23 but whatever it is a fantastic effort to have it back in the air again. Not that I may be biased in any way…..
The onset of the UK winter seems to have slowed the thread down considerably………. cannot make news out of nothing I suppose but it is nice to read about the goings-on there whilst here in the Antipodes
