Taken from the Blitz Then & Now Volume 2, Edited By Winston G Ramsay, (After the Battle):
9./ZG76 Messerschmitt Bf110C WNr.3207. Rammed by crippled Hurricane flown by Flying Officer J. E. Boulton of No. 310 Squadron during escourt sortie over London. Crashed in Woodcote Park Avenue, Woodmanstern 6:15 p.m. Lt. E. Ostermüncher and Gefr.W. Zimmermann both killed. Aircraft 2N+EP a write-off.
Apparently another Bf110 with the fuselage code of 2N+EP ditched in the Channel 5 miles off Newhaven on the same day at 6:00 p.m. Definitely some kind of error.

After extensive checking by myself and Peter Cornwell, we were unable to come up with a satisfactory explanation as to why, in Luftwaffe records, TWO Bf 110s of 9./ZG 76 were recorded as lost on 9/9/40 with the code 2N+EP. The full details are as follows:
Bf 110 C 2N+EP W. Nr. 3108
Pilot: Fw. Hermann Koops (PoW)
Bf: Uffz. Christian Weiher (+)
Damaged by RAF fighters. Ditched in the Channel.Bf 110 C 2N+EP W. Nr. 3207
Pilot: Fw. Eduard Ostermüncher (+)
Bf: Gefr. Werner Zimmermann (+)
Rammed by F/O Boulton of 310 Sqdn. Crashed at Woodcote Park Avenue, Woodmanstern.
What is the source for your 2N+ER fuselage code Alpine? No idea about the pen shaped object thrown from the plane before it crashed. It would be interesting to find out more on this. 🙂

Unfortunately only had my 2MP phone camera with me so the photos don’t do much justice but up close and personal this thing looks 100% original. 🙂
😀 Says it all really.
From the looks of some of the posts here regarding the accuracy of the markings it appears that ‘markings accuracy’ was something the makers were not that bothered about. It would not have taken much for them to get them correct, so you can probably put it down to the fact that the markings in the film/trailer look better (on toys also) and that is probably the reason for them doing it? As for unrealistic flight movements, kids these days are used to unrealistic flight movements (Starwars or any spaceship for that matter). This means the kids need to be thinking “wow that WW2 plane is so cool, Mommy I want one” and that is exactly what George Lucas wants. Guys unfortunately this film is not for you, it is for the next generation of ‘us’ sitting here reading these forums in the next 20 years and thats not a bad thing really is it. 🙂
Come on guys this is ‘Industrial Light and Magic’ on the CGI. An extremely slim possibility that this is going to look visually rubbish. Just be happy that we are getting a nice new WW2 wartime aviation movie. 🙂
Looking forward to that. 😀
Tasty Inkworm 🙂
Very nice Pistonrob 🙂
Thank you, I couldn’t imagine creating profiles in Vector bit too much effort for the weathering. I do my baselines in Vector then everything else in Photoshop. 🙂
Thanks for your kind words oneeigthbit we all start somewhere mate and yours is a solid effort. BTW check out http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/ Great profiling techniques website. 🙂
Hi Paul, please check your references the Doner K3B4B Variant did not carry the additional Chilli sauce armament. 🙂 I believe we may be looking at a Doner K3B4B-WCS

Dave the 3rd episode of Dig 1940 is still listed on BBC Iplayer Here
Sorry but the 2 previous episodes appear to be no longer available? Hopefully you will be able to watch this in NZ unless the BBC IPlayer does not allow for outside of UK viewing? 🙂
