Indeed it is incorrect on both aircraft, but it is usually done that way for practical purposes to stop birds landing on them and sh***ing everywhere.
Jon
How much of a nose cone are you after? Just the shallow dish part right at the front, or the whole assembly back to the bulkhead?
Jon
I bought what I think is a Vanguard yoke – it is identical to FLYBUYs, except there is the ‘ledge’ to hang the checklist off. As far as I can see, the ‘ledge’ is the only difference. I cannot find any pix of a VC10 yoke with the ledge….unless you know diff!!!
PS….I still want a VC10 yoke Anon/Jon!!!
Funny you should mention that wedge plate Tony as that was why I was asking what (if known) the differences were between VC10 and Vanguard columns. Guess what is fitted to the two Mike and myself were on about…….
They belong to The Aeroplane Collection (TAC) and as luck would have it we have had both types on our books down the years!
Jon
Perhaps the rudder is not the original from the glider
It isnt 🙂
The original is still fitted to LPU. This is just a spare one that happened to come with the project when I collected it.
Jon
Did you mean G-ALTU WB981? Just checking as this one is G-ALPU.
So collating the several replies, are we in agreement then that this logo relates to the now defunct Clevelands GC? Also if it does is there any more detail to it that I shoudl go looking for?
I had initially ruled out an RAF connection based on the fact the base colour was blue (with yellow detailing) rather than the more traditional colours (silver, red, white etc), but just goes to show you 🙂
As for which glider it may have been fitted certainly doesnt look like LPU as history doesnt match plus has a rudder fitted already. I have found some Slingsby numbers and dataplates but they are most likely just part numbers. The only other way I can think of bottoming this out is to try and identify a ex Clevelands machine that had at least the rudder painted canary yellow in later life. Hmmm….thats sounds easier said than done though…..
Jon
Wow, an illustrious line up! hope you don’t all have different ideas about final possible paint scheme!:D
Thanks for the pics chaps, more complete inside than I had realised.
We wont once they all do as they are told 😉
The interior is the culmination of a lot of searching and elbow grease. When we took the project on the main panel was completely stripped, no compass, both overhead panels were missing, as were all radio/station boxes, control columns had been cut out and needed reattaching (they were working correctly again until joe public broke them) and the seats were ropey at best. Then thats before before you take into consideration external issues like the missing nose cowl etc etc
We do have more parts to fit but time ran out, so something for people to look forward to next year 🙂
Jon
We loaded up last weekend, though hoping for a tail wind there and back 😀 Otherwise could be a very slow journey each way!
Jon
Now to find a Martin Hearn T.21, Kite etc etc 😉
Jon
It was my turn for a trip out today, culminating with the Tutor arriving back at Hooton Park where it was built approx. 63 years ago.
Jon
Nice Spade grip, but what from?

The lack of brake lever and the reference to stores release makes it Gannet
Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but was anyone ever able to confirm if the VC-10 control yoke/column was the same as the ones found in the Vanguard?
Or put another way how can you tell them apart?
Jon
Ahh, yes, that would be South Yorkshire then :o. Apologies all yorkshiremen. So did you come across the windscreen before hand then Jon?
Rob
I had never heard or seen of it until a fortnight ago. I met DC about an hour after he had correctly identified it and then mentioned it in passing to fellow TAC member ANON. That instantly sparked a memory with him of it being sat in stores when the group was based at Warmingham.
Jon
So for the sake of Benyboy it came from South Yorkshire NOT East – unless Doncaster has moved in the last fortnight 😉
The windscreen originated from somewhere in the North West as TAC had it for many years lying around in stores labelled up as Meteor. An error that has stayed with it until the last month or so!
Jon
Ah the lesser known prop driven variant…… 😉
Not sure you posted the right link there Peter!
Jon
vampirefan & Jon H, would that nose be a 26FN Ref 294?
I also need a Beagle Pup left hand rudder skin for the repair of a customers 121 that I backed in to the prop of the Dragon (B*****)!!!
Sorry Stan, only just seen your message.
Checked the parts manual and parts numbers for the section of Vampire nose we are after is either 26FC 3053 (A.00891A/1) or 26FC 5400 (A.00891A/2). The only difference being what mods are or not incorporated.
