Not sure if this helps or confuses matters – copied here from another thread about 610 crashes around that time and posted by our local 610 sqaudron expert “Anon”

“It was R6891 being flown by JEI Grey who baled out too low and was killed (another instance of lost control), 19 Nov 1940.
The aircraft hit the ground at high speed in a fairly flat attitude so didn’t penetrate much but we found the pilot’s head armour, part of the gun sight, the front off the radio set, a wing tip and all sorts of other small parts.
This aircraft was a Battle of Britain veteran (with 610) and it was a very special aircraft due to the fact that it was flown by Sgt. Ronnie Fairfax “The Pied Piper” Hamlyn. It was in this aircraft that Hamlyn succeeded in shootong down 5 enemy aircraft in one day – a first for the RAF up to that time – and certainly for the squadron.
If you have, or can get, a copy of Peter Haining’s book The Spitfire Log, there is Hamlyn’s account of his action written by himself. I am led to believe that this was also broadcast on BBC radio during the BoB as a morale booster.”

Three hundred gold nuggets i believe.

    .

Wow – I thought it would be more given I heard them turn down £400 whilst I was standing there

Anyone know who had the NAAFI sign forsale at the aero boot? got a bit of a thing for signs at the moment….

If it was the one I am thinking of, it was the Canberra lads at Brunty

it seems a shame to restore/convert it really,a nice original and rare relic in itself.

That’s what I thought and decided not to do when I bought the B-50 pilots aisle panel now in my garage 😀

Also what happened to that rather gorgeous Mk.1a Shackleton panel for sale?

    Ken,

Good luck with the open day. As i am not up to date with things can you tell me which Comet you have.. as i presume its ‘Black Magic’ and not ‘Grosvenor House’ (think thats right!). Or is it a new build or replica.?

    Rob.

    This might help 😉

If the nose was swapped it was long before Bob ever got it in the early 80’s.

I have a picture showing 795 being delivered to Bob’s house and the “Wales Aircraft Museum” legend on your cockpit isnt there. Also another shot of the cockpit showing that the control stick had been hacked out which again isnt the case in yours.

Can anyone confirm the current situation regarding N748D, formerly XW760. I read a report somewhwere its been scrapped, but seen nothing else to confirm this ?

Chatting to a friend on Monday with contacts at Southend (he is ex Heavylift) I believe 1 of the AAF 748’s has been scrapped and N748D is currently being stripped in preparation for the same fate. Sad hey…..yet more civil/airliner type aircraft just slipping away.
