    So Jon,

Do you just want th UK then I’m not sure I know that much about that if you wish to add the US and the rest of the World then I can come up with quite a list, which is a bad thing if you think about it.

What the heck lets make it global 🙂

    Jon 1 – Concrete Tyres 0

1st pic – tyres as found on ‘MLZ and filled with conctrete

2nd pic – after I went to Millom and tackled them this weekend with an angle grinder and brut force 😀

All I need to do now is free the locking rings off (both seized solid) to get the remains of the old tyres off, somehow strip the corroded masses that were once break units out, clean them, refinish them and THEN consider putting new tyres on……. Remind me why do we do this again???! 😉

Of course should anyone have 2 brand new units going spare…….? 😀

Doh! 😀 I’m sure that nosewheel wasn’t there yesterday! Even more interested to know what type it is now- anyone?

I want to say Swift judging by the shape of that canopy framework, but not a 100% sure!

And the two a/c sold to Japan were still extant in the late 1960s. JA6009 (c/n 136) was in the Terminal Building of the old Nagoya Airport at Komaki (Aichi Prefecture) and JA6010 (c/n 137) was at Tama-Tech. This is a theme park which now hosts the Japanese Formula 1 Grand Prix so maybe there’s a chance its still there?

Anyone read Japanese ? http://www.mobilityland.co.jp/tama/

Funny you should mention that as a friend was only telling me a few weeks ago about efforts to find one of these in recent times (maybe last 10 years or so).

From what they were able to find out one was in bits stored somewhere (think they knew which area) but after that information dried up….. I did think about trying to pick up where they left off and carrying on the hunt but where would you start? Its thousands of miles away and I dont speak Japanese – otherwise a great plan lol 😀

What are you using to remove the paint – eg on the gear fairings?

    Bruce

    Current standard process is –

Liberal application of Nitromors to soften everything up; then pressure wash them – sounds daft I know but lifts the stripper/paint mix and any grime off a treat! 😀 ; then to finish a once over with a Garryson disk to shift any stubborn bits and also strip any corrosion back to “bright” metal. Also helps key the surface nicely for a coat of etch.

Was worried using the disks would score the metal like a wire brush attachments do, but can report they dont and are a joy to work with!

Thanks for the update! Best way to do a complete aircraft is by tackling it as many small items!

Or as it is currently, car load by car load! 😀 😀

Hmm well have got other pics but are either naff quality or of very dull things like paint being stripped….. So will have to do some more work tomorrow and over the weekend 😀

One thing I have not asked so far is does anyone know where I could find some Prince passenger seats? Whilst similar in style to Pembroke ones I believe they have different attachment points. This is probably the only major item that so far I have drawn a blank on…

    Cheers,

How recent are the pictures, mine (near top of page) are about 2 1/2 years old

The ones I have looked at are probably a similar age but these are close up and really underline what a sorry state PG is in. Also I doubt there has been any improvement in the last 2 years judging by other posts….. Still, as I say I am trying to get hold of the guys there and pay them a visit to get the latest information 🙂

Belgium Military Museum – probably stored at Vissenaken. The Hooton Anson hasn’t had any restoration work carried out on her.

Thats a shame….. 🙁 Hopefully they have got plans for her as having seen some more pics now G-AGPG is in a VERY delicate state now.

Have just been trawling the net, and apparently the museum of berkshire aviation, at Woodley, have (or did in 2000) a large upper fuselage section of G-AMEW / XA265 Marathon …………. Keith.

    Well its a start…… 😉

Is Hooton still allright? I saw a while ago they were selling their Hurricane FSM?

They had an open day 2 or 3 years ago but none since… any ideas on that?
I’m only 20 mins away from the place myself 🙂

I dont know I am afraid. The Meteor, Phantom cockpit & Tornado cockpit have gone elsewhere and was aware of the Hurri FSM being sold (was in FP one month IIRC?) but after that……?

Hope all is well though as not enough aviation heritage round these parts if you ask me. 😀

Photo here, presumably still under restoration.

    http://www.aeroflight.co.uk/mus/uk/f-k/hootonpark.htm

Found that link and also appears parts of it made it to Cockpitfest 2006 (http://www.internationalcockpitclub.org.uk/festphotoreview06.htm), but wondered if anyone could provide additional information? Every I have read gives the impression its a restoration to be avoided!!!
