Probably about to be ridiculed with this but might it be a spitfire?
the cockpit ladder IS present. it has a few steps missing though. rusted off.
Now just to make sure is this the ladder to get up into the aircraft or the additional ladder to get up to the flight deck you are talking about? 🙂
a dauntless??
So does anyone know where in the country the nose section of Mr Rusty (Shack WL756) is now?
Anyone fancy the trip friday? I need someone with a big, bright torch to come along!! 🙂
You all set then XL391!? 😀
hopefully it was put in the cockpit then!
From memory a replacement ladder would be nigh on impossible to source.
Could she not go next to the Jetstream? 😉
Must say i drive past the old airport everyday and never knew the jetstream was there until i came on here!
I have to be honest she is probably in better condition than I thought she would be by now….
Comparing my 1994 pictures with Vulcan-Love’s recent snaps the rear desk looks virtually the same but as i thought the flight deck instrument panels have been removed/butchered.
Also as i thought the damage from being dropped seems to be located solely on the lower radome – which from memory is fibre glass? Looking at the pictures from EBay the blister looks not to be crushed.
Also does anyone know if the cockpit ladder is still present? Seen a few pictures of XL391 and cant say i could see it…
Also still keen to hear about availability of spares.. Have looked on EBay and found several things but obviously a heck of a lot more parts would need to be sourced!
Noticed a lot of guests users on here so if anyone who is not a registered forumite would like to get involved with this project then have set up a yahoo email address – jonh391@yahoo.co.uk. 😀
Moderators – if i have broken any code of conduct with this post please let me know and i will remove it straight away. 🙂
Hopefully nose sections are more tame that a complete example! 😉
Well loads of pics of every aspect of it really…. 😉
Also still keen to hear about what is to be had on the Vulcan spares market… 🙂
Also on the fund raising front – so far ten people including myself have pledged their support financially with 7 so far actually quoting amounts which totals £1,100. If the 3 remaining (not going to post names here or PM you as you know who you are 😉 ) could PM me with a figure that would be greatly appreciated. As stated already all i am doing currently is seeing what could be raised if needed, nothing will be collected until such time.
If i could get Friday off then no problem! 😉 Though there is nothing stoppign you giving her a look over of Friday….? – this may also be better for yard owners? Just take tons of pictures! 😀
If it’s on Friday, count me in, big match Saturday…. 😉
So it is looking like a trip to Sandbach with my torch and digital camera this weekend! – assuming i can arrange it with yard owner of course. Anyone care to join me!?
Thanks so far to everyone that has offerd advice 🙂
As Wildcat said in an earlier posting is she is too far gone then fair enough. We will have to wait and see….! 😀
Though if all else fails i still reckon there is enough there to act as a good base for a flight deck only display… 😉
Excuse me for being a stick in the mud, but wouldn’t it be better to have a survey on it first to see if it is worth saving?
Anyone care to volunteer to help do this survey if a site visit is arranged? Sure several of us enthusiats are happy to attend but it would be far more beneficial if someone “in the know” gave her a look over!
