Who said the nose had been scrapped….? I only ask because I know otherwise…. 😉 391 is currently enjoying a stay of execution as I spoke with the people concerned today and they very kindly agreed to keep the nose to one side for a day or so to give me a chance to come back with an offer. So it really is crunch time now (honestly no pun intended 😮 ) what shall we do? I can ask if the flight deck can be bought separately but it is quiet feasible they would not be able to cut her up due to things like company policy etc.. Though it would make a cracking exhibit that would allow every man and his dog to see a vulcan cockpit right up close! 😉
well iit looks like we will have to look for another one!
Pete I am glad you are ok.
Also given that XL391 was/is kitted out with the same components as all the other surviving Vulcans do they all also have this potential problem??
true…! 🙂
But does it signify due to a source or from a piece of equipment when in operation?? Say a radar if full swing….?
Well it looks like 391 is still extant but as to where no one knows! Also does anyone know what a red and black radiation sticker signifies?
What is the latest! anyone!? Is the flight deck being carved out?!
Well at best i was thinking now flight deck only for a shade more than scrap value?? Whoch if a whole nose weighs 3+ ton and costs 2k scrap, then this section must be less than a ton which gives a figure round the £500 mark…? Far easier to restore and display!
Folks – keep any further posts on here as i will be offline for the night in a few minutes but Vulcan-Love should be about shortly and he has my number so can keep me in the loop….
Fingers crossed something can be saved! 🙂
Well its looks like time has run out now….
The nose is loaded up ready to go to the breakers in the morning….. 🙁 🙁
If anything is going to be saved now there are a few hours now to make a plan and then contact the breakers first thing to see if a deal can be done. What say people?
Base decision needs to be made – see what can be negotiated and save either teh whole nose or section thereof or walk away? Something motivated everyone to offer their help initially so barring a possible knee jerk reaction to the price thing (may still prove to be a deal breaker but you never know…) is that enthusiam still there?
You interested…..?? 😉
Which one is it? Is Wing Commander Hartley disposing of one of the fleet? XH563 I reckon…
:diablo:
Or there is this……..? 😉
I know of one other Vulcan cockpit that will be up for sale later this year, which is 85% complete inside.
Talk about a kick in the pants….. 🙁 🙁
Though must say given i now know of another Vulcan nose that will be available soon for not much more than XL391 was first tagged at, and this one has been looked after it did start to sow doubts in my mind….
A visit might still prove worthwhile though? Size up possible spares etc…? Heck they might even do a deal for the flight deck only……..
Very true…….. 🙁
Just called them there, viewing can be arranged for next week. The lad on the phone, who was great said he wants £4000 😮 😮 😮 for her!!! I think we have possibly reached the end of the road with this chaps….
Meanwhile back in reality….!!!!
So if you cant selll something for 2k the answer is obviously to double the figure and try again!!???
