    Good Lord! Good on the FO. (I guess the captain would of helped in this situation too)

    Would I fly in a plane with a xwind like that today? of course.

    Not sure where you got the info. that the First Officer was flying, but if she was, that was a great recovery by her!:)

    Wasn’t it in one of these aircraft that his Royal Highness made a pigs ear of landing in the Highlands a few years back??:)

    You are right T-21, we commented on the lack of cars! Thanks for the clarification on the Freighters used. I suppose the historical part of the film was as much for Wolverhampton Airport as for the Freighter aircraft. Incidentally, what happened to the control tower?

    Just watched the film last night thanks to a forum member’s generosity!:)

    The plane was G-AIFV from Silver City. 🙂 The practicing of the single engine landing was carried out at Lydd airport but when the filming was done at Wolverhampton on 15/5/56, the plane overran the runway and was damaged and then repaired. It ended its days at Lydd in 5/62.

    There is a PDF file from the Harringtonmuseum.org which I cannot open describing a crash to R9313 of 218 Sqn. Google on Lurgashall plane crash should bring it up.

    The IAF bought three Cats, but only operated two and that for a short time, perhaps a few months. Therefore odd that they would require an example for such a short lived career.

    Incidentally, N285RA was due to be shipped from Le Havre towards the end of last year, but obviously there was some unforeseen delay.:confused:

    Does anybody remember Paul Jamieson of Dorking?
    Here are some pics of his Merlin(Meteor) engined cars circa early 1970’s. I think he built John Dodd’s car and always regretted selling it because of the reputation it had with its new owner.

    Paul Jameson sadly died some time after 2003, not sure of the date. The car was sold to John Dodd and is now owned by his son, Paul Dodd.
