A well known figure at Eastleigh during the late 40s , 50s and 60s was Viv Bellamy.He operated the Hampshire Aero Club,overhauled and rebuilt aircraft, including the Gloster Gladiator G-AMRK.In the 60s he became involved in building light aircraft – mainly flying replicas for film work though much of this activity took plave at Lands End.A page of reminiscences about Viv Bellamy and Eastleigh Airport by J.B.”Tommy” Thompson can be found here.

I can tell you that it flew a football charter 15/5/02 from Madrid to an airport begining with G and ending with W!

The had runway was installed in 1965. This enabled the largest propliner ever to visit the airport in 1968 when the Douglas C-124 Globemaster landed. DC-3 operators at this time would have included Cambrian, Morton Air Services, British United Island Airways and Strathair. ‘Propliner’ magazine have been recounting the history of Southampton Airport over the past couple of years, well worth reading!:)
