How come you dont see Wessex’s flying but ex-RAF Gazelle’s you do? are Wessex to big for private hands?

    James

I think you will find that the manufacturer does not wish to support the Wessex in a private or commercial capacity and in some countries ex-military machines are definately not permitted.

The underground is saying the plane will be repaired although at a different location (and it won’t be flying for almost four months). Should be interesting to see its’ ground removal.

…and heaven only knows what that bloke’s doing up the flagpole. Some Navy tradition perhaps??? 😀

No. he was attaching the flag to the pulley and let go of it by mistake and as you know, it shoots up to the top of the pole. So, not realising that the Squadron photographer was taking pictures, he decided to shin up the pole before anyone noticed.:D

I have an interest in the Viscount crash because (1) It crashed just off the coast here in Wexford, South East Ireland (I can actually see Tuskar Rock lighthouse from the window here) and (2) a distant cousin was one of the cabin crew on the plane.

A review into the original crash report was held in 2000 and reported in 2002, and it agreed with most of the original report’s conclusions that catastrophic structural failure was the cause of the tragedy. It can be found on the Air Accident Investigation Unit website.

There is a new book published last year entitled ‘Cleared for Disaster’ by Michael O’Toole and the last chapter details the crash of the Viscount. The theory is that after the plane was ‘catastrophically damaged’, it flew for another thirty minutes attempting a landing but without any more radio calls. This book almost didn’t get published as the author died before this chapter was completed and it was only through the efforts of his widow that it is now available.

Great news Danny and thanks for the update. To my embarrassment, have been past the Museum many times without the time to visit. Must rectify that! Hope you can post photos of the Canso when completed.:)

Sorry to correct you but it was not a Piper (they are not used as SEAT– Single Engine Air Tankers– beacuse they are not turbine powered and are too small) it was an Air Tractor.

All corrections welcomed in the interests of accuracy, thanks!:)

Photo of the Air Tractor, does that look like a write off? Also a photo of the fire covering my house (that I sold three years ago!):D

    Bombardier Press Release, Click Here

It’s a bit of a serious concern for Bombardier and Goodrich. 🙁

It is a serious concern and Bomardier are correct in addressing it promptly and hopefully successfully, unlike the DC-10 shambles.

Welcome to the Forum and happy reading!:)

A whole AU $26 was the winning bid, apart from the idiot who bid $1000. Read some of the 29 questions that were asked, no wonder his girlfriend said, it’s that plane or me!:D

I wonder if it would help if all those who admire and appreciate Ruuds
remarkable site were to e-mail this lot to show our disapproval.
Perhaps they might not be aware of just how much negative PR they have
    achieved with this?
What do you think guys and gals.
