According to the BBC website, sadly the pilot has died 🙁 Another sad loss for the Red’s (and the country) to swallow. RIP

Just found this on the RAF website
    http://www.raf.mod.uk/news/archive/vc10-tanker-20092011

Perhaps the reason why ‘105 was flown into Bruntingthorpe earlier than originally intended? If they were desperate for spares out there, they maybe needed to bring in a decent serviceable plane to keep the others going?

And I don’t suppose you have any more recent pics Plazz??

    Hi all,

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions!

I finally got my behind into gear and booked a flight with our very own Propstrike in his Cub. Had an hour from White Waltham at a very good price!

Now to try and skimp on student loan and diesel to get another go!!

That’s a shame……my Grandfather gets a mention in ‘Silent Swift Superb’ for being one of 5 Walker’s on board XV105 (him being the captain) and it was the plane Dad and I got a flight on at a 10 Sqdn reunion a few years back!

Wish I went now! I made the journey shortly after the last VC10’s arrived, but decided I’d go to Dunsfold wings and wheels instead…..but I’ve just seen their entrance fee and lack of planes!

Next time I WILL go lol

I believe 105 is due in on Tuesday for spares……I am going to be in the area with my Dad on Tuesday and would love to see her land…….do any of you know where I can see the runway? Can you see it from outside, or do you have to be inside? If you have to be inside, is there any way we can get in?

    Thanks

Excellent! Does anyone know what time it is due to arrive?

Dad and I are going to East Kirkby on the Wednesday for a taxi ride in their Lanc and were hoping the ’10 was going to be delayed till tuesday so we could try and see it land! We got a flight in XV105 (which I believe is the one due up) on a 10 Sqdn reunion and my Grandfather gets a mention in ‘Silent Swift Superb’ for flying 105 with 5 Walker’s on board (including himself). And then…..is there anywhere at Bruntingthorpe you can see planes landing?

Thanks and sorry for the thread creep!

Does anyone know for certain if the VC10 has arrived? I heard a rumour when I visited Brize last week, but have seen nothing on the net whatsoever about it since!

If it has arrived, I’ll be there!
