Re model of YT-L Spitfire MK II

Off-topic a little, but I seem to recall a model kit with these (or similar) markings doing the rounds a few years ago…

Yep it was Revell. I am just finishing building it. The date is 1982 and judging by the models standard its average for that period.
The Kit No is Revell 4324 in 1/48 scale.

Goering and the white cliffs

Thanks for the information. I had a quick check on the Battle of Britain film (the Robert Shaw, Michael Caine etc version) and in the shot of Goering watching the Luftwaffe there is a tall thin memorial of some sort behind him. Possibly this is the one mentioned in the reply earlier. Best way to find out is to have a drive to it now I at least have a starting point.
