    Angolan Mig-23ML forced landing

Hi Folks, I got permission to post these from the guy who took them.

Angolan Air Force Mig-23ML operated by Executive Outcomes and flown by ex South African Air Force Mirage pilots on ground attack missions against UNITA in the Mid 1990’s.
I think it was July 94, while returning from a strike, this aircraft developed an engine problem.

He glided 25nm to a sucessful wheelsup landing.
The wheels would not extend fully without hydraulics and the aircraft suffered minimal damage..until.. the Angolans shifted it off the runway sideways with a tank rather than recover it to a hangar!!

Anyone got any more pics of the Angolan Mig-23s?

Try to get one of the most recent issues of German magazine Fliegerrevue, it has an awesome shot of an Angolan Flogger ( although an UB) after overhaul at Odessa. So far the best picture of an Angolan aircraft I have ever seen.

Thanks fabe, can you help me with a scan of that photo at all? we do not get that magazine in my country.

I am trying to get as many photos of Angolan Mig 23 ML as possible, most are very poor quality but any more like that one would be very welcome.

    South African Air Force Crashes/Losses

Hi, “Vlamgat” The story of the Mirage F1 in South African Air Force by Dick Lord, lists not only combat losses from 1974 to 1988 but also the cause of loss.
It also gives info on aircraft damaged or lost in accidents in the operations area.

Would not give too much thought to that.. Looks like they differ from aircraft to aircraft.. Refer to the pics below.. As often said – T.I.A. (This is Africa)

Those are some of the best quality photos of Angolan Mig 23’s that i’ve seen!
    Thanks Flex.
I know its not a photo but thought this may be of interest to you guys.

    Thanks flex297, those are great.

They all seem to have random cammo schemes! Been trying to match various pics of Angolan Mig 23 cammo to their more standard patterns (Soviet, Libian etc etc) but no luck so far.
I do have the cammo pattern for the Dual seat Angolan “23” I121 though.

    Angola

Found these on a Brazilian forum, I don’t think they have been on this forum yet, they appear to have been taken in Luanda.

Does anyone have any photo’s of Angolan or Cuban Mig 23’s operated in Angola? (besides the ones on the Cuban website “Cuban Aviation”).
