    Sorry Chaps,

and I read that various operating critical operating systems to do with air intake ramps have been removed post delivery flights (at the behest of HMG, given their “sensitive technological nature” -though what piece of 60’s technology could possibly be “sensitve” anymore is beyond me).

Same system used on Tornado perhaps?

Maybe a red herring, but the RAF Police school did have a Comet fuselage at one point (Ex 2R) from Duxford, although that would have been later than the early 80s.

As Melvyn has pointed out, as Crown Copyright material of over 50 years old they are now technically out of copyright.

Sorry, but isn’t copyright now 70 years? Or does Crown Copyright have an exemption from that?

    MiG-29 burning.

Must have been taken from fairly close to where I was standing……

Not expected to appear officially until March/April, no 800 NAS is working up on Harrier GR at the moment – none so far seen as marked Navy

    OK, anyone seen….

an RAF U2? I have been told by ‘someone’ that a photo exists. The RAF was involved in the U2 overflight program from Turkey in the 50s.

The other RAF ‘mystery’ aircraft are the Mil Mi 24 from Afghanistan and the Mig-15 that was around in the 50s (Possibly from Suez)

    Damien,

Mike J found it in a bookshop in York I think it was, and sent me the details, I got it for 32.99………….even for a book as relatively rare as this one seems to be, 65 smackers is allot.

    Thanks for remembering though……..

Gosh, I got mine for £5 from Argus as a special offer when they remaindered them!

There is a mention in the Buffaloes over Singapore book of one being buried in a riverbank, which re-emerged and was re-buried in the 60s.

There was one in an MOD (PE) scheme of grey with blue cheat lines – might have been an AOP9

One not mentioned so far is the other surviving Avro 504-based Cierva, the Wright engined C8W held by NASM – I don’t think it’s on display at the moment. Again, unlikely in the extreme they would sell it, and I wouldn’t want to fly one of these anyway!

To thread steal slightly, in the original Black 6 book by Mr Snadden, he mentions colour photos of Black 6 being taken by Popular Science (?) whilst she was RN228.

Wonder if these ever turned up as I’m curious as to her colour scheme whilst in RAF service

Can you say define how long is ‘very recently’ as I thought all the Scimitar fuselages had been cleared some time ago?

My understanding was within the last 5 years, but this may be wrong – I’ll ask him!

got any pics? I thought Scimitars were very rare with only 3 aircraft and about 5 cockpits remaining  and TSR2 parts 😮

My friend has, they were taken a few years back – he was doing a major research project into the TSR2 – His site is:

    http://groups.msn.com/TSR-2ResearchGroup/

I shall ask if he has any to post – IIRC one of the ‘Scimitars’ was in fact the N113 prototype.

If anyone was at the IPMS show, he had the photo album on the R&D SIG stand.

    North America

XS691 (64-18265) – dropped in a river by accident from a chopper while being airlifted to the Virginia Science Museum.

Can anyone give anymore about this Airframe? Most sources give it as scrapped at Edwards AFB.
