RE: Greetings
Hi pal, and welcome to all forums.
Unfortunately, I gather from your mail that you won’t be eligible to join the Old Pharts/Farts Club for a while, but your time will come.
Sit back and enjoy the ride…

Bet your wife doesn’t know that you have advertised around the world that she terrifies you one week in four…..and why!!!!!!
Oh, and by the way, my phobia isn’t snakes, sharks or spiders – just as well, in Oz we have more varieties of them than just about anybody else.
Nup, my phobia is needles. Hated them since I was a kid and will do anything to avoid having a needle. Dunno what they call that fear – needle-phobia, sharp-phobia, ouch-phobia?

I don’t know where you got this photo from, but it looks like it could be the small town of Branxton in New South Wales, Australia, not too far from where I live. The description would be about right – Branxton would probably have two cemetaries and I’m sure it doesn’t have a hospital, and the countryside in the background of the photo looks typically rural Australia.
In addition, the 60 kph speed sign is the same style as our speed limit signs, and is the correct speed for built-up areas in this state.. Further, the Lions clubs are pretty popular in the rural areas of this country.
Any chance of it being somewhere else?

RE: School can be so cruel!
Keltic,
I agree. My years at high school are something I certainly don’t want to re-visit. It was a crap time. I remember, while I was still at high school, my grandmother used to tell me that school days were the best years of my life, and thinking to myself, “hell, if this is as good as it gets, I’m in for a s**t of a life!”
Reunions suck!!

RE: The Alamo
Vortex
I can assure you that comparitively few of us Aussies (please note: not “ozzies”) has any wish whatsoever to become part of the United States.
Many Australians joke about Australia already being the 51st state but it is a derogatory term. We believe there is already far too much US influence out here, with MacDonalds, Pizza Hut and KFC on every corner, our politicians being too prepared to hop into bed with Bush and generally having our language infiltrated with Americanisms, such as “fries” and “burgers”, instead of chips and hamburgers.
No thanks, mate, you can have it to yourself. Australians are fiercely independent and that’s the way we want it to stay.

I have one real problem with your proposal for a war film to cover the whole war, particularly if it was made in Hollywood.
If the movie “Pearl Harbour” took two hours to cover an attack that lasted about half an hour, how long would a movie covering a six year war take?
Our grandchildren wouldn’t be able to afford the admission costs to see the 9,000,457th episode in 2120.
And I hate watching movies when I can’t last till the end!

I reckon I can tell you why holidaying in Israel is cheap. You pay for your accommodation in advance, but there’s no guarantee you’ll survive long enough there to use it!

RE: GaryB
Cyruss,
A little while ago (early 2002 BC – before Cyruss), a post was started where members were invited to display their photos on the forum.
That thread has run its course, but perhaps it needs reviving.
Care to be first cab off the rank, so that we can see just how dashingly good looking you really are, or is the photo of the S.O.L. that accompanies your messages an improvement on the real you?

RE: 11 September “celebrations”
Kev
With a combination of the crash of the new forum, an inherited virus which has stuffed my pc over the past week and various other hassles, it is only now that I can respond to your reply to my original post.
Yes, the use of the word “celebration” was intended to be tongue in cheek – it is hardly the right word in the circumstances.
Well, I’ve seen the show about the collapse of the building and frankly, it didn’t add much to the original. Still, I’ll bet that form of construction has just been consigned to the dust bin for the future.
As for the rest of the shows, I gave them a miss – did I miss anything?
