The publication of photographs of the Mapua Mosquito is strictly forbidden by its owner, John Smith. He allows people access and allows them to photograph it, but on the proviso that no photographs of his collection are published online or in print. I don’t know whether mossie.org sought special permission to post the photos they have, but I’d like to hope that other people will respect his wishes. He asks this for his safety and his security, and because he already gets far too many enquiries from people around the world regularly as it is to cope with.
Thank you for your reply. I didn’t realise that this was the case. Seems a bit odd to me, but as it’s his train and all that he has the right to do as he pleases with it.
I note from a recent thread on the Wings of NZ forum, that is has reportedly moved. Is it indeed the case?
There is also FB.VI NZ2336 (TE910) stored in time capsule condition with John Smith in Mapua.
Does anybody have any recent picture of this intriguing aircraft?
I have seen the ones on mossie.org, which are quite old now.
That link is for a job advert!
The caption to the photograph on the website is wrong, it goes with a different picture, which was printed in the newspaper.
That depends if the event had NOTAM’d Airspace, if it was an organised event with a CAA permision then it would have!!
Deffo NOTAM’d. I was bimbling around on Saturday and copped it.
For VC-10 fans this is worth a look, especially full screen HD!

Don’t forget to turn the speakers up. 😮
The previous gategaurd at wattisham went to that radar place and then was just cut up after all the effort to get it there as the new CO didn’t like it apparently
Assume you mean the gate guard at RAF Neatishead. It was scrapped because the base closed.
Unfortunately the locals ain’t airport friendly! Coltishall would have been a better location for the airport IMHO.
The only people that would benefit would be the ones who live round the current airport. Coltishalls road links and catchment area are far worse than the current location.
Needed to be south and or west of Norwich to stand any chance.
Blue 2. Yup ! all for me me me :diablo: It will be interesting to see if the local museum are going to open it to Joe P
Hope so never been in a Nimrod!
Where abouts is it parked in relation to the museum ? Looking on Google, there don’t appear to be any, even overgrown, hardstandings that close.
It is parked in the north-west corner, on one of the old loop dispersals I think (where the F100’s are shown on Google Earth). You can see it from the Cromer Road.
ETA 14:20 according to the man on the security gate.
These are the people you nedd to talk to.
I see the Scimitar is in storage due to lack of space at Solent Sky.
It would be nice if they would be prepared to loan it out to another museum. Quite a rare old machine nowadays.
I did not suggest that the MOD should give away anything merely it was unhelpful to any future plans to run the engines if they removed all of the fuel.
My comment about civilian arrangements was merely to illustrate when you buy x for y, you can negotiate what is included in x, yes even with the MOD.
I fully appreciate that they might be just defueling the ‘div’ fuel and leaving the tanks wet (let’s hope so).
What also needs to be appreciated, as Twin Otter mentions, you cannot just re-use fuel removed from one aircraft by putting in to another.
Unhelpful? You mean the RAF should have given away maybe 20,000 lbs of AVTUR as well as supplying the aircraft?
I thought the Elvington aircraft had been bought. Normally when you buy / sell / lease aircraft, the arrival or delivery fuel is factored into the price you pay.
Moths are supported by DH Support, so they still qualify for a Certificate of Airworthiness.
So you can still use them for things like pleasure flights.
