How about updating/deleting the ‘stickys’ whilst we are at it.
Most are out of date.
Cheers
Joe
It is a great shame that a WW 2 vintage aircraft should be in such a sad state.
The aircraft in question spent some time at Duxford after Southend. My picture shows it being dismantled, presumably for its move to North Weald.
Cut spar very much in evidence.
And finally, especially for ‘Oldfart’ the Widgeon in all white c/s.
Piston Powered; Harvard, Provest, Storch and a better pic of the Sea Fury.
The jets, Meteor, Sea Hawk Saab J29 and Thunderstreak.
Ok here’s the first batch.
The ‘heavyweights’ Beverley, Lincoln, Mitchell and Casa.
Have just found another packet of negatives marked ‘Southend 1979’. Scanning in progress……..
We also had a tour around the airfield and Heavylift maintenance on the same day.
It was all Viscounts, Heralds and Belfasts back then!
Very nice joe very very nice.
Intresting to see the Widgon G-ANLW behind the Skeeter (anyone have a photo of it?) the scheme it is is is a “WW2” camo for use in the film Eye of the Needle if anyone has a copy of it please get in touch been looking for it for ages…
even if it is just to see a WW2 Widgeon!
Didn’t include a picture of the Widgeon because it’s not very good, but here it is anyway!
Have just scanned a few pictures from Southend.
They were taken when the museum hosted a BAPC meeting in 1982.
True, but i’d prefer to see it flying, or at least kept in Leicestershire, a dedicated Auster museum at the site in Rearsby wouldn’t be a bad idea
The Rearsby site is owned by ‘Auster Industries Ltd’ all of the directors are ex Auster people.
They have recently challenged the International Auster Club to come up with an idea for a permanent memorial on the site.
Sadly my idea of a hangar filled with a representative selection of Auster’s, and a 600yd x 15yd strip to operate them went a little over the £2000 budget being allocated to the project! 🙁
These were taken today as she was ‘hoisted’ up:
There is an Auster III under restoration at Leicester which is probably the one listed on G-INFO near you. The pictures were taken about eighteen months ago, so the restoration has moved on a bit since then.
I was told the owner would sell it ” for the right money”
Midland Counties Publications published a history of Beagle, with individual histories of all the aircraft produced. I have a copy but it must be at least 20 years old and long out of print
I think the last Auster on Public Transport C of A is G-AHAL, a J/1N based at Wickenby with Wickenby Aviation.
Leicester Aero Club have a Super Cub at their disposal (its owned by a friend of mine).
I have a J5/F which is based at Tollerton, but you would have to pay me in beer tokens 😉
