You appear to subscribe to the myth that everyone in prison is a hardened criminal who will, whatever happens to them, revert to a life of crime once released. True of some, but certainly not true of everyone behind bars. But you can make it true, by treating them all as if it is.

The large amount of prisoners in jail, is a reflection of what is wrong with this country . Yes I agree, not all prisoners are beyond hope. However, perhaps Governments should sort out the problems that lead to criminal behavior, such as poor education, problem families etc etc. Discipline at school is now lacking, so kids that would benefit from it don’t get it. Trendy leftist thinking in schools has damaged this country forever.
Although this is slightly off topic, it needs to be said that because Britain no longer has a large export market, there are no jobs for the less educated person anymore. In my opinion what we are witnessing these days, is the end of a golden era for Britain, there are going to be some painful times ahead. A lot of jobs that might employ the less educated kids, are now being taken by migrant workers. I won’t go into why that is, but I think we all know why. So kids with no hope of a decent job, may well turn to crime and end up in Prison.

All too close to the scenario of Orwells’ “1984” novel – once you start changing history to make it more palatable then it’s the start of the end as far as I’m concerned. What’s next? – try and rewrite the whole of history so that it shows that no-one of any creed, race, religion or skin-colour has ever been offended by this contry or any of it’s residents?

Are those in power today really of the opinion that most rational people cannot appreciate the difference between what was considered acceptable language/behaviour/attitudes “then” and what is considered acceptable “now”. I am sure most people can appreciate how attitudes have changed, and anyone who cannot will probably be incapable of reading the damn thing in the first place 😉 .

These people who want to change the text must be the same do-gooders who overdub “Digger” for “N*gger” whenever the Dam Busters is shown 😮 !

“Political correctness” – how long before common sense previals, and extreme “PC”-ness itself is seen to be politically incorrect? :diablo:

Yes indeed, George Orwell’s 1984 is happening now. We are under surveillance 24/7 and there’s nothing you can do about it. ID cards are coming, Cameras, snooping into our private lives, future road charging , credit cards, etc. This is no longer a free country, what people fought for in the second world war .
Sure enough, you always get some prize partridge on the TV or Radio, that says ” they don’t have a problem with all this snooping as they have nothing to hide ”. Yet the best part of all this is, there are still plenty of crooks out there, that all this George Orwell stuff can’t find e.g. the Identity fraudsters. Yet it screws the normal average hard working chap to the floor. Britain is becoming a country of crooks, as only they know how to beat the system.

I would reprint the comic myself. HOWEVER, I’d also allow people to see the original to see and judge for themselves.

You have to be careful what you say or print these days, or the PC brigade will come after you. However there are exceptions to this rule, as we all are aware. One law for one lot, and another law for the other. 🙂

Probably. But if they’d been eased off their habits properly, that would be less likely. “Cold turkey” is one of the least reliable ways of getting people off drugs permanently.

We have to decide what we really want. Is it to make these people suffer, regardless of the consequences when they’re eventually released, or is it to minimise the chances of them offending again? I prefer the latter. If they suffer in the process, I don’t mind, as long as it’s not grossly disproportionate to their crime, but I don’t favour making them suffer if doing so increases the chance of recidivism. A bit like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Suffer in the process?, not much chance of that swerve, they are well looked after. In fact better than quite a few poor old age pensioners, living alone. Such is the rather daft way this country has gone, over the years.
Stop them offending again? don’t make me laugh. 😀 😀 😀

    DRUGS in PRISON.

This Country is well and truly heading for the scrapheap. What about the self abuse that these prisoners have inflicted upon themselves, by taking Drugs in the first place. Even Smokers are doing the same to themselves, and that’s legal. Upside down thinking, which there seems to be a lot of in Britain these days, will eventually fail us all, and the repercussions will be tragic.
What’s the betting that when these Prisoners eventually leave Prison, most of them will return to their old Drug habits anyway. Or am I mistaken for thinking that, and they will all become responsible citizens. 😀 😀
I think that in about 25 years from now, most of Britain’s population will be Drug dependent. A chilling prospect for a once great Country.

If I won all that money, this is how I would spend it.

    1. Learn to fly.

    2. Buy a light aircraft, and a private HS125 jet.

    3. Spend a couple of years in the USA, touring all US Air Bases, and watching the Air shows. Then Canada, Europe etc. Take a couple of Birds with me, the Wife wont know. 😀 😀 :diablo: :diablo:

    4. Then tour UFO hot spots in the USA, and hope to see one or two UFOs.

    5. Then spend a few years touring the most haunted houses in the USA, and spending nights in them, with company of course. 😀 😀 :diablo: :diablo:

    6. Then tour all Astronomical sites, hoping to get a chance to see deep space through a huge Telescope.

    7. If all this can be achieved in my remaining years on this Planet, then I will have done well.

Don’t worry about the Wife, I will sell her to the highest bidder. 😀

See, money can bring out the selfishness in me, I think I will stick to the simple things in life.

    UK HOME GUARD.

I’m becoming more and more convinced that some form of universal conscription for 16-21 year olds is desperately needed in the UK.

Whether the UK Armed Forces think it’s such a good idea in this day and age is, of course, another question completely.

Well I think we now need a defence force, to counteract the Terrorist threat. So anything along the lines of national service, would be a good idea. The future for the UK dosn’t look to good, so a home guard may be the answer.

BTW: The USA has mandated unleaded fuel since 1974 and for years has had very tough auto emmissions (and safety) standards…why do you think Fiat, Alfa, the original Mini, and loads of other European cars aren’t sold here.

And there are plenty of environmental and recycling rules here. In fact, when I visit the UK I’m always amazed that there aren’t more recycling programs.

Nice to know you care so much about the environment. But your CO2 levels are way to high, what about sorting that out.
