The mission was to “get” OBL and to Punnish the Taleban for not giving him up. So in that sense the war is already half won. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to take all the military equipment and personel home and then give half the money that it would cost to have them there to the local people to do the job for you. Supply them with the weapons they need and help them build a country that is much better than the one they have had for the last few centuries or so… and tell Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to stop supporting those taliban aholes or else.

Seems like a developing Vietnam situation here, this war is about Battlefields not air power. I don’t think telling Pakistan to keep out of it will work, they have their own agenda. Seems a good idea, to pull out and let the local people sort it out.

Allied help.

Typhoon is not yet A2G or even A2A operational. The first operational unit is still working up and will be AD only. Tornados not suitable for CAS mission operating from austere airfields and it would have problems.

Ok then so where’s our American friends when we need them most? Where are the F15s F16s etc Aircraft carriers, Hornets . Seems to me we have been left in the lurch, with egg on our face.

Little Green dot.

Gee it’s so quiet in this thread.

Here’s another experience I had a couple of years ago.
One night I decided to go for a walk, starting to walk along the path beside my residence I happened to look at my right hand. To my amazement I could see a small green luminous dot of light, which seemed to be moving about. I tried to keep my hand as still as possible. The light was moving slowly , then it suddenly vanished. I looked up into a cloudy sky, thinking this light must have originated from something above, but didn’t see anything. Not seen anything like it since, most peculiar. 😮

It’s interesting to note that no one so far has said this war is winnable. So does the Government think it is, do they know something we don’t. I think most logical thinking people realise we shoudn’t be there, and I think Pakistan and the Muslim world thinks that way to. If one of the aims is to destroy the Opium fields, then we havn’t succeded yet.

F104 a legend.

This is the jet I would get real close to and listen to the engine idling as the pilot was doing pre flight checks. For me it was music to my Ears, and I will never forget that experience. Unfortunately after about 15 minutes of that sound my ears went into quiet mode, recovering eventually. F104 great plane in the sky and on the ground, lovely sound to boot. Also the black smoke generated by reheat in full power mode, made this plane exciting to watch. certainly got my adrenaline going at air shows. 😀 :diablo: :diablo:

Cats and Rats.

Well my little cat is on heat, ALL NIGHT she whinned and screamed and meowed and I couldn’t shut her up and I couldn’t get ANY sleep!!! Which is why I am cranky 🙂 …it’s not 1500hrs and guess where the little **** is…she’s sleeping…ON MY BED!!!

Afghan disgrace

What’s going on is a bloody disgrace. I hate it, hate it when all we hear from Browne and co. is “we are giving our forces what they need” “Our forces are not overstretched”
This govt says it wants to stand up for freedom and democracy, it says it is dedicated to our armed forces but when it comes down to it, they put saving money before saving lives (lack of fire suppressant foam for hercs for example). They fight wars on the cheap and have cut our forces to bone.

As a previous Thread has stated, the govt is only going to deploy an extra ONE harrier to support our forces. What about deploying Jaguar GR3’s? Oh, sorry, I forgot, they are too busy being ‘drawn down’ and sent to the scrap heap, another fine example of govt ignorance.

I feel so sad for those men and women who put THEIR lives on the line for this country and they get treated like dirt by our govt. 😡

I agree with the afghan mission, but there is no point continuing with an undermanned, under-resourced force and attempting to fight the war on the cheap.

You can’t treat a war (after all that’s what it is) like some kind of game. You either put your full military weight behind it (for the sake of our own forces and the Afghan civilians) or not bother at all. The question is, which is it going to be? 😡

Well unfortunately being a small country, we don’t have the financial resources to increase the firepower in Afghanistan. I don’t like repeating myself, but I think it’s time to stop throwing money at a war which can’t be won. There are many people who think the same, but I guess the government thinks otherwise. Lets hope things change for the better, it’s the only hope we have. 🙁
