So everything is not perfect with the Russians air industry?

I can say Russian aircraft industry is in good shape and still able to offer very advanced products (especially if given a task) at much competitive prices then the western counterparts. Also in my opinion you don’t follow the news about PAK-FA too much because if you would you would know that with the latest technologies they simulate flights on ground with real flight systems and it helps to limit the flight hours! But sure it would be better if we see more prototypes but it may be all about their plans according to their sources. As far as i know they also work on LMFS (manufacturers working on their proposals) but when the desicion will be taken i don’t know but sure they have all the capability to create a lightweight 5th gen. fighter but it is a desicion about sources and priorities. Maybe you forget Russian aircraft industry is also very busy with promising long range strategic bomber project (PAK-DA) along with PAK-FA and unmanned projects so Russian aircraft industry way busy then you tought!

Do we have any idea when the T-50 will achieve “Western” IOC? For comparison, the F-22 reached IOC in December 2005, and by that time there was already a training squadron at Tyndall, and a combat squadron (27th FS) at Langley, which makes for about 60 aircraft. When can we expect the T-50 to reach a similar status? I understand that the original plan was 55 T-50’s by 2020, but recent articles seem to indicate that this has been pushed back.

it may take 8-10 years for Russians to build 60 T-50s so they will probably master the bird at Su-35s and as you know both aircraft has the same cockpit layout and at one of the statement Mr. Pogosyan had declared in the future it will be easier for pilots transition from Su-35s to T-50 because of the same cockpit layout. Also with the help of simulators and Yak-130s pilots may get ready.

Turkey Releases RFI for Fighter Program

ANKARA, Turkey — The Turkish government finally released a Request for Information (RFI) for its ambitious program for the design, development and production of an indigenous fighter jet.

The country’s procurement agency, the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM), defined in the RFI document the scope of the fighter program, dubbed TF-X, as “indigenous design, development and production activities of the first Turkish fighter aircraft to meet Turkish Armed Forces’ next generation fighter requirements and replace the existing F-16 fighter fleet starting from 2030s.”

Companies or organizations capable of designing, developing and manufacturing the planned aircraft are invited to obtain an electronic copy of the RFI from SSM.

“This is a critical stage for the program,” a senior SSM official familiar with the program said. “We wish to see which companies would be willing to take part and which capabilities will be offered.

Turkey’s top procurement panel, the Defense Industry Executive Committee, chaired by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, decided Jan. 7 to go ahead with the TF-X program after reviewing its feasibility.

At the meeting, the committee decided to move beyond the pre-concept design stage. It said that a twin-engine model would be pursued in the national fighter aircraft program.

In my opinion the first prototype(s) of the type30 is almost ready for testing and now they will start testing it at different cycles and confirm its characteristics. As far as i remember in late 2013 according the news, after the final design of the type30 engine accepted by the comission, it was stated that the first prototype(s) of the new engine is planning to be built in about six months. So now it should be built or big amount of parts ready for testing 🙂

RAC MiG boss eyes fifth-generation fighter

RAC MiG is contemplating building a fifth-generation fighter which would use its current MiG-35 platform as a “foundation” for the introduction of new technologies.

Sergey Korotkov, general director of the Russian firm, says concepts for a new aircraft have already been worked on by company engineers.

“I know this is one of the ideas, one of the directions, that is in the pockets of the design bureau,” he says, speaking through an interpreter. “I do hope that we shall stick to this direction more seriously very soon.”

Although he does not detail how advanced its studies are, Korotkov believes it is “very likely” that the new combat type will be developed. However, he says “the most important thing is that it should be ordered”.
Such a “time-consuming” project, which requires “quite a big amount of money”, would need to have a defined end user before it commenced, he says.

Korotkov plays down suggestions that any work on a fifth-generation fighter would bring MiG into conflict with its sister airframer Sukhoi, which is developing its own stealthy type, the T-50/PAK-FA.

The two aircraft are “are quite different projects and each would be targeted to resolve their own mission”, he says.

The maximum take-off weight of the current MiG-35 is around 5t lighter than that of the larger T-50, and Korotkov suggests it will provide greater efficiency for the majority of projected missions.

“We consider that the MiG-35 is that very platform which might, in the future, form the foundation of a fifth-generation fighter,” he says.

However, in the meantime RAC MiG is still waiting for confirmation of a long-awaited order from Russia’s defence ministry for the present MiG-35.

Korotkov says all the relevant documentation covering the deal for an undisclosed number of aircraft is with the ministry, and he hopes it will be concluded “this year”.

Export orders are also being pursued, with Egypt recently linked to a commitment for 24 examples of the Klimov RD-33MK-powered type. However, Korotkov declines to comment on the rumours.

Additionally, in April the airframer received an order for 16 additional MiG-29SMTs for the Russian air force, which will keep the production line active until work can start on the newer model.

Fifth generation fighter technology in an Mig-35 may be interesting but in my opinion only these technologies are not enough to make it an fifth gen. aircraft as some media calls Su-35s as an fifth gen. fighter too!
