Moving forward what I would like to see if I was the FAA is by 2016 is 24 Mirage F-1’s and 20 A4AR’s by 2018 the introduction of a new type like JF-17 Block 3 by 2020 24 JF-17’s in service and the A4’s retired 2022 the introduction of a second new type Mig-35 or J-10B 2025 20 of the new type and 30 JF-17’s and the F-1’s retired

As said the Spanish F-1M’s will offer a good step forward for the FAA and will allow them to carry out interceptions as well as limited A2G

Argentina has it in their heads that west is best and this is stopping them from looking at all the options or is it firstly if they buy JF-17 who will build it China or Pakistan how long will it take to deliver any order what is the parts availability and training going to be like how much will it cost to buy a use full amount of weapons for the new type that can’t be fitted to any other type in uses with the FAA I am not saying this is the case but these are some questions I would be asking
with very limited money 12 F-1M’s can be sort with 12 more for parts they can fit sidewinder to them from the Fightinghawks and they can have them as soon as they like
here’s the truth..
Argentina chooses mirage F-1 and will upgrade them instead of going new build like jf-17

All this said is that the airforce had been ordered to get a quote from the Spanish for F-1M
Goldust regarding F-1 JF-17 please see my posts 19 & 54 on this thread
Agreed and to this end it seems Argentina are once again looking at the Spanish F-1M’s however if Ecuador’s F-1’s are up for grabs with a good number of hours remaining on the airframe they could be a better bet however I have to say Ecuador’s Cheetah deal was outstanding

There is also the Ecuadorean F1s recently retired from service, i wondered what happened to them? Found this on the net:

I have say I love this paint scheme. It looks like there are F-1 airframe out there be to upgraded and I think that anyone who is looking to buy will do so in multi-pulls of 12 but I also think you are looking to buy 30+ then JF-17 may be a better option
That can’t be right 33,000 hrs in 32 year that would mean each airframe would have done less than 2000 hrs each or 60 hrs a year but if it is true grab them quick as they will have 4000+ hrs left on them
The Mirage 2000-9 is in a different league to JF-17 much more capable in all areas and all upgrades cost more the original sale price
Upgrading JF-17 with AESA would put the cost up to round 35 million mark and put it to close to Gripen and Mig-29M and once there anyone with half a brain will go with those airframes
When looking at the F-1 if you were starting with a ex French air frame a just over a third of ASTRAC program has already been done so if you leave out the engine mod you will probably find you have 5-6 million to spend on a airframe life extension program
JF-17
7 hard points 8000lbs load
Speed Mach 1.6
G limits +8 -3
BVR yes
Service ceiling 55000 Ft
NVG compatible cockpit Yes
self-protection radar jamming pod
Super cruse NO
F-1 MF2000
7 hard points 8800lbs load
Speed Mach 2.2
G limits +8 -3
BVR yes
Service ceiling 65500 Ft
NVG compatible cockpit Yes
self-protection radar jamming pod
Super Cruse Yes
How about taking the ASTRAC upgrade for Mirage F-1 and fitting it to Gripen A replace the RDY-3 with the RDY-2 its not a true upgrade but it dose open up the Rafale toy box for the bargain price of 15 million dollars
I have really come to the conclusion that the su35 or pakfa or j20 is what argentina should go for. Not sure why anyone would by mirage f1s for anything. Those planes would cost a foot and an arm to keep operational. Even the newer m2000s would suffer the same problem.
As much as I love the jf17, too shortlegged for argentinas needs. If u buy planes, they better be for war not just parades, something argentinas present fleet does not do justice with. Might as well wear the union jack and start speaking english than keep flying these old toy planes.
Maybe what the F-1M buy bring them is time to wait for something like J20 if they can pick up the 12 jet for around 75 to 100 million dollars it a good cheap stop gap for up to 10 years
JF-17 is said to cost between 20 and 25 million dollars as it is today however the PAF is looking for western avionics for its JF-17’s and how much will this put up the price per unit this said I do like where this platform is going and I feel some Countries are waiting to see how it beds in with the PAF and what Block 2 brings
The only way we can compare how F-1 MF2000 stacks up on price is by taking some known’s so the 18 F-1’s from Jordan are on the market for 100 million dollars so that works out at 5.5 million each we also know that the MF2000 upgrade costs 15 million dollars per airframe so there is not much in it cost per unit
So what are you getting for the money
JF-17 a new airframe that is said to be a BVR capable multi-role platform but is yet untested and we are yet to see how it stands up to service life but has promise
Or Mirage F-1 MF2000 a well proven airframe that even on there last exercise had the best availability of any type there including Gripen with well proven avionics in the RDY-3 radar at give it the same A2A capability as M2K and a A2G capability in line with Rafale it is also interesting that the MBDA Apache can be Launched from both M2K and Rafale so there is know reason why it can’t be launched from F-1 MF2000 from the centre line or the in bored pylons which would make F-1 a pocket Rafale
so for me at this time if and only if I can find the right airframes it would be F-1
I feel that keeping the three separate is the best way to go if we look at the Navy its air wing works in to ways firstly you would have 2 Carrier air groups which could put to sea as 6 fighting hawks 2 trackers and 2 sea kings or work along side the Brazilian Navy by sending a flight of 4 Fighting hawks 1 Tracker and a Sea King
Also the MPA’s need to work with the surface fleet and SAR units as I said before the Navy needs to get 8 Knud Rasmassen class OPV’s and 4 new frigates over the next 6 years
The Army needs to be able to move troops and equipment as it sees fit and would not like the Air force saying when it can or can not do so
The one place Tri service can and will work is training it has too very good points firstly you are bring the best from all three services together to train the future and secondly because all your new pilots start together you start them working together from the very first with a better understanding of what each services does
Right then better translation it would seem the Argentine Defence Ministry has ordered the FAA to get a quote for 12 flying F-1M’s and 12 more for spears recovery
