The only reason I can think of is a charter of some description as I know British Airways do charter their aircraft on occasion. Searching data.flight24.com for G-DOCX’s whereabouts last weekend (specifically on Sunday 4th) has it doing the LGW-Marseille flight early morning then there is a massive gap where the website knows it was flying however can’t retrieve route info then late night it was logged returning from Cagliari to LGW. All very mysterious but judging by the rare gap that data.flight24 has for that frame (the only gaps in the last fortnight are that weekend) it doesn’t seem like a run of the mill BA flight.

Thanks for all your answers. I guess Perth is not as far from the area as I originally thought. It just intrigued me that it had a very high level of GA activity and did not seem to be in the immediate vicinity of any airfield known to me.

Thank you FrequentFlyer and nJayM for your guidance. I will look at the price of flights down to LHR over the next few weeks but at the moment it’s looking far cheaper just to get the sleeper down as it also gives me a few extra hours (I’m sure catching a plane from LHR is a time consuming thing). I will try and go as late in June as I can, it will probably be after the 20th seeing as I am not back from Tenerife until the 12th. Though according to the plane-mad website, from the 20th until the 27th it will be 27R for landings so Myrtle Ave. doesn’t look like all that prime a spot (or is it OK if you just want to watch and not take photos?).

Once again thank you for your hints and tips.

Nice pictures in less than nice conditions! I take it I am wrong in assuming that if you taxi out on just one engine, as well as the pull to one side, you would have to run the one engine twice as high as you would otherwise to get the plane to move along at the same speed? I f this isn’t the case I am surprised more companies running A340/80s and 747’s don’t have a policy of taxiing out on just the inboards.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my query barry.

It was whilst reading an article about the new London bus that I found out that Wrightbus are Northern Irish. That will be a long drive for someone when the time comes!!

Some great shots there!! Soon we will see GLA added to the flyDubai destinations list with the number that have passed by in the last few months on their way to their new home in the Middle East. :p:p

I understand that currently the GLA-LHR service is 1x daily. Even if it made economic sense, would a less than 1 daily (say 4x weekly) service be viable or would that be a little silly for domestic?

As far as I know all Continental aircraft carrying the new “UNITED” titles add “New Livery” to their callsign to distinguish them from as yet un-updated aircraft that still say “Continental” on the side. Not too important at Bristol as there is only one Continental plane there at a time anyway but at EWR or IAH it’s used to distinguish old titles planes from new titles ones. The reason being as a pilot if you are told to “follow the new livery Continental 757 to the runway hold point” you keep your eyes peeled for the 757 that says “UNITED” rather than that other 757 you see that still has Continental on it. Hope that make some sense. 🙂

It’s so sad really. Had he not got involved with that mad bunch he might have lived long enough to come and live in Cornwall without a VISA courtesy of the EU! Shame really!

Some great shots there. The wet runway always makes for better pics in my opinion!!

I should really choose BE over EZY one day for one of my regular EDI-BFS (BHD) trips!!

It was in Edinburgh town centre in an area with a lot of high end retail shops. The woman approached me and spoke in a very quiet and depressed sounding voice and just explained that shed been abused and she was on the run as she couldnt get back to her family. I am always cynical but she simply asked for whatever I had and despite the little I gave her (maybe £1.50 and the bottle) she seemed very pleased and thanked me with a smile before walking off. I guess it just made me more willing to help as I know how bad domestic abuse is and how it easily can leave women homeless!
