I was a mere 10 year old boy when 9/11 happened, however my memories or the day are very clear. I remember by father picked me up from primary school telling me that some aircraft had crashed into “a big warehouse somewhere, I think maybe Chicago”. At this I thought, well OK terrible accident, some pilot has crashed on approach into some warehouse under an airport or has over-run the runway by some distance an the thing to stop the stricken plane was a warehouse building. After the short drive to my house, I went into the living room where BBC news was on and as I saw that a plane had crashed into a massive skyscraper, despite my very young age I knew this was the start of something that was going to drag on, maybe not for the next decade or longer but for a few months anyway.

I also remember going back to school the next day and it being the talk of the classroom and the teacher being asked countless times by every pupil in the room “Is World War 3 breaking out miss?” The teacher just didn’t know how to answer it and simply kept saying I don’t know but in a sombre tone.

Scary time for everyone involved I guess

Why not just pop along to GLA- 7 based 757’s TOM and TCX, plus CO, US, FI ! 😉

I don’t know of any spotting locations accessible by public transport. I used to be a regular there when there was a reasonable place to spot in the terminal but no more!

Some great photos there Robbie!! I have never seen so many 757s in my life, I think BAA need to really expand EDI!!!

Thanks for your hospitality and hope to see you again soon!!

As for my fave, they are all great but that penultimate First Choice/Thomson 757 is really well taken!!

    All the best 🙂

“Aerobatic pilot Alex McLean has died after an accident at Casarrubios airfield”

The accident occurred whilst the pilot was carrying out a training flight in an area of the aerodrome reserved for this type of flight.

At around 1pm today (Tuesday), Spanish aerobatic pilot Alex Mclean, 39, died at the Casarrubios del Monte airfield near Toledo. He was Spanish champion many times in this discipline and one of the best pilots in the Red Bull cup.

According to sources consulted by ABC,the accident happened whilst the pilot was conducting a training flight reserved for this type of flight, often referred to as the ‘aerobatic chimney’, which has been used for these types of aerobatic manoeuvres for 5 years now and is set up in a way to eliminate any danger to the public from aerobatic flights in the area.

The aerodrome, the largest in Spain in terms of private flights, contains a maintenance and training base for Red Bull cup pilots.

According to sources, the accident happened whilst the pilot was carrying out a manoeuvre he was very accustomed to however also very risky, a nose dive whilst doing barrel rolls. For reasons which are not yet clear, the pilot was unable to recover from the dive and flew straight into the ground!

Hope this is of some help people 🙂

VS is one of these airlines I have fallen in love with and therefore can’t really do anything wrong. In their defence I think it is very hard to make anything other than a very simple colour scheme suit the B747!

    News to me!

Off topic I know but does that mean that Britain no longer has a stake in Airbus? 🙁

    Fair enough I suppose!

I just thought that any problems for an aircraft were a “get down ASAP” type of thing. I also thought that PIK rather than say GLA would have been better as I believe BAE systems have a major base there? Surely they would have been able to sort something out for a needy Airbus!!

Surprised they didn’t opt for PIK as a diversion airport. Closer and let’s face it, PIK won’t mind a closed runway for a few minutes! To MAN that’s a major headache!

The situation would be freedom fighters wanting separation from Spanish occupation . It doesn’t need any interpretation -would you consider targeting civilians to achieve that aim legitimate?

No, I believe the Canary Islands would be better as part of Spain!
