Clearly I am blinded by “misplaced” patriotism, then.

    Anyone else?

You are supporting murderers, even the British now admit it. Defending those that took part in Bloody Sunday on the British side is like defending Derrik Bird to be honest similar amounts of innocent people died, 14 on Bloody Sunday and 12 killed by Derrik Bird.

kev35: Of course I regret all loss of innocent civilian life regardless of who the murderers were.

Blue_2: I suspect sadly you are right, that cursed agreement!!

    Right, rolls sleeves

I am absolutely ecstatic that the British Army has got the slap on the wrist today that it deserves. Bloody Sunday was a terrible act of war crimes, there is no other phrase was it. Innocent men and women shot in the back as they ran away or tended to dying friends and relatives. Anyone who even attempts to defend these bunch of murdering cowards is simply blinded by misplaced patriotism.

Just so happy that the truth that the residents of Derry have known since that day is now publicly acknowledged after 38 years of the British government perverting the course of justice by any means possible.

The only better outcome I could hope for is to see soldier A, B, C, X and other murdering ba*****s to be named, shamed and hauled into a dock and tried for murder.

    Will I be watching?

Whenever I have time of course, nothing wrong with settling down to watch some of the best players in the world show off their skills, oh and North Korea of course!!

What team will I be supporting?

Spain and England, In that order should there be a conflict of interest. As I am half Spanish I have no choice but to support Spain but seeing as Bonnie Scotland didn’t quite make it to South Africa, I feel it is only fair to cheer on the 3 lions instead.

What team will I not be supporting?

    The French.

    Why?

Republic of Ireland and Theirry Henry’s hand, nuff said me thinks

As mack8 quite rightly said criticism for Israel’s over-the-top reactions to perceived security threats is not anti-Semitism. The very fact that there are Jews across the world who are very critical of Israel and some who even question whether the state of Israel should even exist should blow that theory straight out of the water. I was speaking to a few Free Gaza activists over the weekend at a demo including one activist arrested for taking part in a flotilla and they were saying that they get called anti-Semitic everywhere they go and love to then introduce people to the many Jewish activists fighting alongside them to free Gaza from the blockade and watch the critics retreat in embarrassment!

I do however think that sending more flotillas now is a bit futile. The recent events have gained the cause a lot of media attention and the eyes of the world are now on Israel to apologise for the over-reaction that left 9 Turks dead. Sending more ships to Gaza to only be diverted by Israel to Ashdod is not going to solve the problem. The MV Rachel Corrie made clear they would offer no resistance to Israeli troops but was adamant that they wanted to head to Gaza port. The ship’s captain must have known that his chances of getting to Gaza were nil and that Israelis would board. The only way a ship will get to Gaza is by keeping the Israelis at bay with firearms and that ain’t going to happen. I think the activists need to change tack and convince Israel to lift the blockade by other means than sending ships thousands of miles to only fall victim of the blockade anyway!

These are XL Airways Deutschland and France, they were not affected by the folding of XL UK as a buyer was found for the non-UK operations.

I always switch my mobile off, though I remember that once my dad got a stern ticking off when his mobile’s alarm went off as we were lining up for take-off. So always remember to deactivate any alarms you have set.

I do remember though when I was younger slyly listening to the airband radio on flights before I realised how dangerous that probably was in terms of interference.

I simply cannot stand people who hold things people’s countries have done against individuals i.e your French so you have this action against you, your Israeli so you have this action against you etc. etc.

I am British but if I have everything Britain has done held against me I would be evil, centuries of oppression of many countries against me!

Well I don’t know what the facts are as I read on the BBC that at least some of the Israeli soldiers were armed with assault rifles.

I am certainly not wanting to stand up for the aid flotilla or the IDF as I think the whole situation could have been handled differently by either side. I recently saw on the BBC site that the IDF claim they gave repeated warnings over 4 hours to the ship not to continue its present heading and to turn back and the ship ignored those warnings, which they shouldn’t have. I also think it was completely wrong and counter-productive for the ship’s passengers to respond as violently as they did. However I would expect better of the IDF and perhaps when faced with basic weapons could have handled things differently, they should have boarded expecting resistance to their presence and briefed accordingly. It will be interesting to hear the results of the inquiry as to in what circumstances those that were killed were shot.

So I would not like to be seen to be taking sides here as I think there were rights and wrongs on both sides, however the more I look into it the more wrongs I see on the aid flotilla’s side

    EDIT:

Here are a few interesting links:

If the ship’s crew were beating the Israelis with metal poles and other basic weapons it was simply in self defence against the many Israeli soldiers boarding their boats armed with sophisticated firearms. The allegation being made by Israel that their soldiers killed 9 people on board the boat in ‘self defence’ is simply a desperate effort to explain away a serious mistake by the IDF, I just hope they are made to say sorry and admit their mistake!

As for “If it were our Marines, we would be backing them all the way”, I for one would be just as critical if it were our Marines. As some members of this forum know, I certainly do not shy away from criticising HM’s Forces.
