Saw a prog about the Shackleton of SAAF that crash landed in the desert a while back.
Was it left in situ, stripped for parts or what? Does anyone know?
Is the mighty Mars still flying, or has it been grounded now?
Many thanks for posting those Glen.
This must rank as one of the greatest of all restorations.
Its a great pity the rest of the crew arent around to see it.
Well it would have been if I’d pressed the right button!
How’s this for a hot rod then?
Taken at East Fortune a few years ago.
Sure does make W1048 look like a wreck eh?!
It does, and it is.
Maybe its best its dark in there.
Those guys are really doing an incredible job.
Puts our RAFM one to shame, but thats been well discussed here before.
Thanks for the link Peter

Smells a bit like Troll to me.
As time goes on and the more pictures we see of ‘391 I increasingly wish they’d just go ahead and scrap her and put her and us out of our misery.
As for the Intrepid/Concorde thing,it doesn’t really matter how much cash they have to throw about. The environment in that location is such that she simply won’t survive no matter how much tlc she’s given.Ten or perhaps 20 years maximum, then it’ll be time to scrap her,and the Barbados one even sooner than that I’d have thought.
BOAE is under cover at Grantley Adams in Barbados-temporary structure until a hangar is built for it, so perhaps it stands more of a chance that the one on the barge.
Nice to see a proper Carrier in British waters.
Bloody shame its not one of ours.
Werent our current efforts originally designed as helicopter carriers before the SHAR came on the scene?
I’ve seen mixed reports in the press about our proposed new carriers, but as usual there’s all the stuff about having to make cuts to the programme. No surprises there then!
Is anyone up to date with whats happening?
If I had left the house about 2 seconds later than I did yesterday, my last meal would have been 2 slices of toast and a cup of tea, thanks to a numpty in a people carrier jumping the lights.
Traffic cones.
“How many heavy 4 engined heavy bombers do you know of capable of doing a barrell roll?!!”
Well, the Avro Lancaster for a second. (Castle Bromwich production a/c by two test pilots there at least – and yes, several times. See Aeroplane Monthly. And enough height, a shallow dive, really good piloting, and many many aircraft can do some kind of smooth, low g roll – but for a deformed god of metalwork you can’t beat a Vulcan. Brrummmm.
Cheers
Didnt know the Lanc had done it, but I’m glad I do now!
Damn!
A grammatical error. And that was before the evening beering!
