Thanks for that WD!
My R/C plane only goes for about 15 minutes-but then there’s pilot error!
“True World War 1 Stories” introduction by Jon E. Lewis, Robinson books 1999. Just what youre looking for. It had a big impact on me.
Wow!
Hendon should take note!
TSR2-in camouflage, and 617 markings.-
There’s been an awful lot of Hollywood treatment of WW2, and we’re all pretty well versed on the subject. WW1 on the other hand, just doesnt seem to attract film makers. I read a fascinating book recently, comprising of eyewitness accounts, mostly from the trenches, and it certainly opened my eyes as to the tremendous sacrifice of all those young men, . Is it in danger of being forgotten to future generations?
It might be a bit beyond the scope of this forum, but the only films I recall are the one with Peter Firth (cant remember the name, but it had impact) and “Gallipoli”.
Something along the lines of “Private Ryan” would help redress the balance-
What do you folk reckon?
Isnt the “artwork” original? I saw photos some years ago of it stripped of paint before going inside and the bomb markings and Goerings quote on the port side were still there.
Ageorge- I’m more than happy for you to post my photos here. I know the folks will appeciate them, so go right ahead.
Chippies at Turnhouse were, as I remember from my ATC days- WB567(with Spitfire style mirror!), WP967, WZ875. I think it was the last one that was wrecked in a crash beside Loch Glow, with ATC Cadet on board, about 1978. It was replaced with another, but it wasnt the one at East Fortune.Just cant remember the serial.
Those flights were great fun-seat parachute and leather helmet ,rubber mask with microphone and your own cockpit.
“Watch out for the hun in the sun-tacka tacka tacka!”:D
Its a repro, not a full size one!
Given that the 190 replica has attended the Museum Of Flight airshows, and its Merlins local field, I’d reckon the probability points to the baby190
That would be the beastie then.
We dont get too many warbirds flying over here. Apart from the Museum of Flight airshows, I think that was the last one!
Now that you mention it, I think youre right. Didnt the Bof B one go to the States about 8 years ago? I almost crashed my car trying to look at it as it flew over here on its way over.
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
Likewise.
🙂
Isn’t that the one that was used in the filming of Battle of Britain and ended up derelict because of some legal issues?
What a waste!
