The Sea Vixen was used in the sinking of the wreck of the Torrey Canyon, along with the RN Buccaneers and RAF Hunters. The Vixens using a mix of 1000 pounders and Napalm.
that is one thing i would have loved to have witnessed… Sea Vixens, Buccaneers and Hunters….. WOOOOOOW. 🙂
what was them strange looking intermeshing rotor copters built in the USA back in the early 60s. sort of a American kamov…. i think they where called Huskeys… along with the Kamovs they must be the strangest helicopters ever produced… 🙂
AIRWOLF… aka Bell 222… old Airwolf could fly at mach 3 you know !!!!!!!!!!.
a 222 flew over my house the other day…. i told my missus it was Airwolf 😀 😀 … trouble is i think she belived me 😮
the Sea Vixen was a multi role type… i wonder how meny air to ground sorties they done… when the Buccaneer arrived i would have thought the Vixen had a 100% air to air role… i have seen a picture somewhere of a Vixen loaded up with 4 Bullpups… what other air to ground weapons did they carry….. was the Vixen ever used in anger….
i have always had a soft spot for the French Super Frelon.. a very impressive looking copter… have they been retired by now.. last time i looked the French navy only had a handful left….
what ever happend to the Westland WG-30.. 🙂
too right… i mean things like JET ENGINES, RADAR, AIRCRAFT CARRIERS, JET AIRLINER, SUPERSONIC AIRLINER, are all American inventions !!!!!!!!!!.
i know some woman who would like that soup… 😉
spicy…. i would think chilli peppers would burn like hell 😮
i think she “or he” was named humphrie or something similar… 🙂
i think the Russian airforce still have 5 or 6 on there books.. correct me if im wrong……. one of my favorite transport types ever… they just look so cool.. pity about its ASCC name.. the Russian name wasnt much better.. ANT !!!!!!!!!. 🙂
the Tu-22 Blinder..
the by now standard.. new up to date radar, ECM, more powerfull economic engines.. modern weapon fit… also UPWARD FIRING EJECTION SEATS. also areodynamic improvments to raise its stalling speed.. so the poor crew can land and stay in one peice…… please dont tell me they done that to make the Tu-22m Backfire.. i would do this to the Blinder enyway….. 😉
very nice pics of Belvaderes there.. a fantastic looking machine.. i have always thought the Royal Navys mk-5 Wessex’s looked the best.. is that famous one from the Falkland campaign still around.. 🙂
this helicopter has always facinated me… a almost forgotten bird these days… i think they was used in the early part of Vietnam.. i would like to know how many was built. when was they retired…. 🙂
Be more specific!
What about a development of the ARTS AESA protoype being trialled on the Tornado? And she should have more weapons carriage options. The second weakness of the dear old Bucc (one of my favourite, ever, planes) after the failure to fit any of the fancy avionics that had been developed for the TSR.2 was the failure to properly exploit its potential weapons-carrying potential. So we want multiple-ejector racks for the weapons pylons, & integration of multiple PGMs (4 Sea Eagle? Bah! What about a dozen NSMs? 6 RBS.15? A full internal load plus 4000 litres external fuel & a couple of Asraams (with HMS & associated LOAL datalink for over the shoulder firing) in case any hostiles get annoying?
too right… so when is production starting… we will have to toss a coin over who pilots her first flight… who needs stealth… when you can have a Buccaneer. 🙂
9.. waking up on monday morning… looking forward to going to work. 😀 😀
