Drama in the air by John Beattie a great collection of stories from the cockpit, the truth is always better than fiction.
One major problem we have in the UK which started in the late seventies and still prevails to this day is the culture of not valuing careers in the engineering field, many young good hardworking people have been steered into the so called promised world of IT,Finance and the arts.
Don’t get me wrong they all have a place but for far to long we have neglected the engineering fields and look where that has got us.
We had some excellent companies in the UK but were run into the ground by bad decisions from board level to higher management, many who never understood what the shop floor was about.
We need to value and promote all types of engineering in the schools and then we might have a chance of producing decent managers for the future which in turn will give us a chance at competing against the Germans who seem to be ever more present within UK industry.

British Leyland and BAC were in the back of my mind when posting my last reply, hopefully the practices from both sides are now in the past.
My point being we need to invest in the future of our industrial base via training and R&D so we have good quality apprenticeships and a sound base for the future which will eventually flow through to good management practices and employee relationships.
No,but do have the old class 1 HGV but it has lapsed.

Talking about HGVs, what about the new revised speed limit for HGVs on single carriageways,I drive approx 40,000 plus miles a year and they are still dawdling along at 40 miles an hour (mainly supermarket wagons) with a long procession behind them with the inevitable frustration this causes.
By the way Moggy down in Somerset they were holding the speed awareness days at the Yeovilton museum.
I understand where you are coming from being patronised etc but the people I know that have taken the Course say it did help especially when they could look round the museum afterwards obviously they paid the entrance fee.

Looks like I jumped the the gun a bit regarding the revised speed limits for HGVs, the revised limit will come into effect January 2015, this probably accounts for the lorries still “dawdling” along at 40mph on single carriageways. The limit will be increased to 50mph which should help the flow of traffic.
My licence lapsed due to moving jobs and not renewing my medical.
Any rate off to eat humble pie, sorry turkey and book myself on the driver awareness course.

Quite agree with all that’s been said above, not enough recognition of great designer but hopefully with the 100 year anniversary this year his name will be put up there with the greats of Britsh aircraft design.
Just as a foot note and hopefully not too much thread drift 3 of us have purchased Piston Provost G-MOOS this week and hopefully will be back airborne later this year from Yeovilton more info to follow.
True, but hopefully Lee on Solent can now look forward to more inward investment and keep the GA part of the site thriving.
The airfield is in a unique position within that area and has great potential for the future.
