The world population of TBDs has just increased since the discovery of the wreck of the USS Lexington
This is fantastic news, I’m loving it. But dare I point out that the world population of TBDs hasn’t changed at all?
All the best, cheers
That’s excellent news.
Thanks TwinOtter. That looks like a fantastic resource and tribute – very impressive indeed. If/when I’m ever next in the UK I’ll see if I can visit. Meanwhile have signed up for their monthly email.
Gorgeous
Not in their name?
This graph is stark … it’s almost as though this were a nostalgia vote. Tell me, who has to live with this?

This is extraordinary – very well done James – a work of art and engineering.
If you don’t mind me asking, how is this done? What software etc? You talk about being able to trace diagrams/plans? Surely they are 2D?
Many thanks, Don
I’ve got to say, looking from afar, and from a small island nation, that I would find a trade of self-determination vs being part of something bigger, with open borders and the opportunity to establish yourself wherever you want, an ever so easy decision to make. I think you guys are stark raving mad to have exited. You must be seeing something the objective observer doesn’t. It’s fascinating (aka scary) to see the Nationalistic fervour stirred up in the US by the insane one – and now this.
It seems to me that with all that’s going on (political turmoil, genocide, refugees, radical Islam, climate change) that the world desperately needs to pull together, not apart!
What I find strange is that there have been many thousands of hits on this thread presumably most by “guests” in view of the comparison of numbers viewing at any given time, 17/75 right now, that not one single person has joined to make their views known and more specifically to make comments like we have seen in various media sites. I wonder why this is?
This is a terrible tragedy and my sympathies lie with all those affected.
Paul … I’m one of those 3/4 … I tend to browse before bothering to log in and comment. 99% of the time I do not log in and comment as I feel no compunction to contribute to the endless to and fro debates so popular on this (and many other) forums.
Don
A quick google search reveals more photos of the same aircraft on the wwiimodeller forum. There are 4 or 5 different photos of the same crash scene (work your way back through previous photos from that link).
Yes excellent.

Creaking Door mentions Pforzheim earlier in this thread. There’s a good piece on the Wallberg (the rubble mound created in the 50’s from the ruin of Pforzheim and the memorial on top of it. Here.
You’ll find there, this observation (translated): “The church bells of Coventry/England and Pforzheim ring every 14 November and 23 February on the days their cities were destroyed as a sign of reconciliation.”
Elliot. I read your article, it’s a fine attempt at balance and just enough first-hand memories to give good insight into the people involved.
I then read this thread … and unfortunately it hasn’t gone quite so well.
Dresden should never be forgotten, as for some reason it seems more horrific than many others of similar or worse outcome. Quite why is hard to tell, but I do think it is that sense of the unnecessary. I doubt that anyone thought of it as unnecessary before the raid, but it clearly began to feel a that way very quickly afterward. The lens of history likes to pick out exemplars and focus on them.
superb
For heaven’s sake – what a ridiculous objection. It’s a superb effort.
Which would you rather … this or Airfix 1/72?
I just hope I ever get to see it!
