OK this sounds a bit snotty, but I’m genuinely interested. Can you give an example of a photo that’s good, and explain why it’s good ? I’m not criticising what you said, just curious.
I think this ok but I do know whats wrong with it, so I would be happy to hear your opinion, btw If I came across as Snotty I didn’t mean to sorry.
A question for all you photographers. How much of your end product is “in the camera and how much “on the computer”? By which I mean how much do you tweak and play with the image by the use of digital technology to achieve the final result? Bruggen’s playing with Axel’s picture put the question in my mind.
Charlie all I did to that pic was open the exposure up by a couple of stops, which easily done in camera simply by useing manual and giving two stops more than
what the meter is trying to convince you is the right exposure.
Phil.

How is anybody who is just starting photography going to learn anything with a “stuff those who tell you that you should have done this or that”
this is why all you get on here and other sites “Is good pic, Oh nice shot.” when 90% of picture are not good, but any criticism or help gets a comment like yours Linc

I think that the trouble is, is that if you carry a camera around most of the time, as I do,when we are out, we tend to set the lense on Auto focus, just in case we miss that”One shot” only time, which to be honest, saves you fumbling quickly to set up the lens manually.

But Linc, if it was in perfect focus the exposure is still out.

Axel, I think they are extremely good, has your camera, an Auto focus facility, or is it manual?.The reason I ask, is that the white bird, has a white snow background, and a lot of auto focus cameras tend to “Hunt” in such conditions.
Jim.

The problem with that picture is the camera has shut the exposure down so you have ended up with grey snow, and as you say linc best to focus manualy in those conditions.
