Did Ralph Hull do anything on it,because he is a bit of an unsung hero in Spitfire restorations?
Definately not ! Not sure Rolls Royce would agree about unsung hero !!

According to AVCom web site this aircraft had extensive restoration by VMI Engineering. Given that Airframe Assemblies restored the tail planes, fin unit, Fuselage, Port wing & that others did most of the rest then i fail to see how VMI have done an extensive restoration !!!

The owner of this aircraft has asked me to add to this post that the Starboard wing was refurbished by himself & his team in Devon & that Mark Cole metalforming the engine cowls.

Its a shame that the Daily Mail didnt get caption right on photo of the guy stood by spit with arms crossed !! That is not Martin Phillips ! Probably pilot Bill Perrin !!

A lot more than 10 years in the making – at least 15 by my count!
I started working on the fin unit on 5th May 2002 & the fuselage in August of 2002 so by my reconning thats a little over 10 yrs !

Thanks daz, I havent got that book.
Steve”P”
Great news, 10yrs in the making !! Well done Martin.

Does anybody know which low back airframes were used.
Steve”P”
Thats totally different !! My house isnt an historic artifact. I suppose some philistiens would strip it out ala the 1980’s just because internal parts arnt needed !! If it isnt going to fly leave her as a museum piece !
Steve”P”
As ever really great photos!…
…..A question, what is the green stuff (trade name / manufacturer etc), of the green material that the sheet-metal guys make their form blocks from??
Looks like a sort of green plastic or neoprene Chris,
Steve”P”
I hope they jolly well leave the paint as it is as this is how the aircraft looked while in service. Too many spits look too good, just look at shiney BBMF aircraft. Would ruin it for me !!

I wouldn’t mind betting that Spitfire XVI offered for sale recently (SL542?) will end up at Biggin, too…!
On a side note, whatever happened to the G2 Collection?
The founder of G2 trust still involved with spitfires. He has original 2 seater MT818, a couple of MKXIV projects & share of a MKIX !!
Steve “P”
Not another one! So it’s not from the Isle of White and it’s not a XIV. I’ll let the guessing begin!
Buy the way it’s Isle of WIGHT !!

Tony,
She looks riveting! No pun intended. Forgive my ignorance. What Mk is she? About how many hours have gone into her so far?
Great photos.
