Firstly, let me say how sorry I feel for the friends and relatives of all those lost so young and so pointlessly. Let me also say that I admire many things about the US, so please don’t take the following as some kind of anti-US rant. But it’s high time the good people of America faced the facts about their gun laws. If you allow weapons to be so easily available, it surely follows that many will sooner or later end up in the hands of the deranged, those out of control through drugs or alcohol, and the plain criminal. For all those fine sounding words about the constitutional right to bear arms, and the undoubted fact that the vast majority of gun owners are responsible people, these appalling massacres will continue until someone has the guts to stand up to the gun lobby and tell them you are no longer prepared to go on paying with the lives of your young people.

I reckon you’re thinking of Kenneth More.

Read Kenneth Williams’ autobiography once, and was disappointed that he seemed to have such a contemptuous opinion of the Carry On films that made his name. He’d go on for page after page about rehearsing for some obscure arty-farty theatre play, and in passing say something like “And things weren’t made any easier by breaking off for 6 weeks to film “Carry On, Doctor” Other than that, he barely mentioned them.

Nowadays , sadly the “nanny society” has had there way and decreed that due to “radio active” paint used on the dials we are NOT allowed to climb into cockpits any more!

I remember reading once of a WWII pilot who survived something like 25 ops on Lancs, yet when he asked to look inside one in a museum (not sure which) he was refused on these grounds. Can’t blame the museum, what with all the H&S pallava now, but what a blxxdy ridiculous state of affairs.

Found this on PPrune the other day. Apologies if it’s already been posted here.

Twas another south coast brewery – perhaps in Hampshire? I believe they are one of the few regionals still with us, and are very fond of their Spitfire connection.

And can I remember who they are? Can I hell! 😡

One of the most unusual mods must have been the slip-wing long range Hurricane. Believe this was carried out by Cunliffe-Owen. Never seen a decent photo of the beast though – anyone got one?

Think it was actually Hill & Sons or “Hillsons”

Don’t scare me like that. Saw the thread title and thought there might be a risk of the pub being shut. 😡

Anyone got any thoughts on the Pentagon’s claim that showing the cockpit video (particularly the HUD) would be militarily sensitive? Surely that kind of thing is pretty common knowledge by now? Col Bob Stewart on BBC this morning reckoned they’d have to completely revamp the A-10 now, which seems way off the mark.
