Something that irritates me is continuity or rather a lack of it sometimes. i.e show a character boarding say a 747, show a 737 in a sunset type scene than a dc10 landing. Black rain was an example of this.

I agree. Whilst the man on the Clapham omnibus might not be able to tell a Mark I Spit from a Mark IX, he can see when a big four-engined plane has suddenly shrunk to a smaller one with two, then got bigger again and grown another engine on the tail. If they repeated the same laziness and contempt for the viewer’s intelligence in other ways, the film would be laughed out of the cinema; imagine, say, someone getting into a Golf, driving along in a Jag, and getting out of a Ka.

Perhaps he’d had a curry the night before??? :diablo: :diablo: :diablo:

That’s one way of getting the SLF to sleep on a long flight, but I think I’d prefer alcohol.

I remember it. I think it was a part work, building into a kind of enyclopaedia over so many months? Seem to remember each issue was a bit on the thin side. Wouldn’t think they’re “worthless” but I somehow don’t think you’d get a lot for them on eBay or whatever. Might be one for the charity shop. Please don’t just bin them though; someone would probably love them.

I’ve always thought Richard Townsend Bickers was a pretty pompous & long winded writer. Seemed to try to cram in as many obscure words and make his sentences as long as possible. Nothing clever about that, IMHO.

Watched “The Virgin Soldiers” on video the other night. Lots of great scenes; the squaddies getting circumcised in the mistaken belief they’d get 10 days sick leave afterwards, the bullsxxting sergeant hiding in the loo when the train was ambushed, the squaddie insisting to the MO he’d only got a cold and being told “well, we’ll give it a minute, and if it doesn’t cough we’ll call it gonorrhea”, another one always minutely examining his “big blue vein”, and of course Juicy Lucy; “WOW! I NEVER HAVE VIRGIN BEFORE!” Leslie Thomas is one heck of a good writer, IMHO.

Hey, if my missus referred to me as a Graf Zeppelin I’d be quite proud..but I guess that was what you meant 😉

Mmm… if we’re thinking that way, the old Do17 “Flying Pencil” springs to mind. 🙂

In my teens I liked to think of myself as being like a Jaguar; modern, fast, cunning, and slippery to catch. Later I was an F-14; big, powerful and long-ranging, and as I worked long and sometimes lonely nightshifts I often used to think of one on patrol over the ocean for hours on end. Later still, the mighty 747, and again I think it was the notion of long night flights that somehow appealed. After a brief flirtation with the MD-11 (had a string of flights on Thai’s HS-TME), I think a Dragon Rapide maybe fits the bill now; not so much “old” as “vintage” with a certain style lacking in newer models, and still (usually) earning its keep. The missus would probably say Graf Zeppelin.

Found this (scroll down about a third of the way)

Still not sure it’s what I remember though. Think it was a British company. 🙁

Yes, the stuff on that site is all clearly spoof (lots of references to April 1st and suchlike) but I’m sure there was a real proposal once for underwing personnel pods for the Harrier. Not sure, but I think they also suggested it could carry low volume priority cargo. Might seem a bit far-fetched, but unlike the “Harrier HAR.12” I think it was a genuine proposal. Just wondered how far they got with it.
