Just finished “Troubles” by J.G.Farrell,set against the Irish War of Independence.
Not at all sure how you did it, but thank you so much for the info, guys.
Well, that will keep us going to the end of the year! I am sure we could add a few of our own recommendations. Just ordered ‘Sidewall’ from the Big River, so have that to look forward to!!
Just ordered “Down to a sunless sea” Looking forward to it.
Can recommend Sunless Sea, read it a long time ago and enjoyed it. Will have to look out for Sidewall!
Just completed ‘Flight for Control’ by Karlene Petitt, check out her bio, she really knows what she is talking and writing about (being a qualified airline pilot).
Just Googled “Sunless Sea” as it sounds interesting, and came across this list of aviation-related novels.
Just finished “Trust Me” a collection of John Updike short stories, and starting “The Great Stink of London” about how Sir Joseph Bazalgette transformed the city and the health of it’s people by building the sewerage system still in use today (as well as many other achievements. One of the unsung heroes of Victorian Britain.
Already bought the Emirates and Qatar A380 models for my youngest son. He loves them Think it’s the same company; certainly the same models. .
In 2010 I visited the RTAF museum at Don Mueng, and there were 7 or 8 Fantrainers on display! Some of them weren’ t even finished…. So there must be some issues with them…
I think the RTAF were a bit unhappy with them, and didn’t keep them in service very long? Not sure.
Thailand is my second home, and my Thai wife was surprisingly impressed by the food at the RTAF Museum restaurant a couple of years ago. I guess you know how particular Thai women are about their food. Has the museum changed much recently? Disappointed to see the state of the Firefly last time.
Shame about the choice of music at the time.
Just finishing the third volume of Michael Palin’s diaries “Travelling to Work”
Don’t have time to watch this all the way through at the mo, but I remember a story about a Buccaneer at Red Flag hitting a telegraph pole with its wingtip, and when they examined it they found it had been flying upwards/climbing when it did so. Vastly under-rated a/c IMHO. Can’t help wondering if the RAF somehow resented it, because it was almost forced onto them in the wake of TSR-2.
I always thought BA and Qantas both stopped in Bangkok? Could be wrong. That’s usually about 12 hours to the UK.
From western Australia I guess they’ll be going westabout…
Will BA have to follow suit?
