Why are you supporting the killer and his/her rights, when an innocent has been murdered?
I’m afraid you’ve lost me there. Where did I say that?

It amazes me how blithely some people talk about Human taking life, whether legally (ie state executions) or illegally. The “Polish Simpleton” as someone here described him, had a dignity I would have been proud of; when interviewed on TV soon after his release, he refused to be bitter or resentful about his conviction or blame those who did it to him; when you think what he must have gone through in Jail, I think that’s quite something.

As others have pointed out, the very fact that the US continues to execute people suggests it is failing as a deterrent. As for the argument that wrongful convictions are unlikely now, I’m sure they made pretty much the same arguments back in 1975, when this poor devil was convicted of one of the most heinous crimes imaginable. If we’d had the death penalty here, he wouldn’t even have had those few brief months of life after his ultimate acquittal-

I have another “idiotic” question, and not sure even Flygirl can answer this one. Why, if you see even just a couple of seagulls at the coast, they’ll often be screeching and squawking, but even when there are a large group of them inland they seldom make a sound?

Another statistical one? What are the odds of anyone being alive in 3 different centuries? That is, being born very late in one century, living to more than 100, and making it into a third century? Incidentally,I thought the late Queen Mother achieved this, but on checking I see she was born in 1900. I guess it must have happened to someone, though?

I have an “idiotic” question. If I flip a coin, say, 10 times and each time it comes up heads, what are the odds/chances of it also coming up heads on the 11th flip? Are the odds very remote because 11 in a row seems very unlikely, or are they even (50/50) because there can only be 2 possible outcomes?
