Be honest – how many are fans, just because of the Quattro…?;)
More to the point, how many are fans because of Keeley Hawes:diablo:
With the modern trend for remaking old classics, If they ever did a remake of ‘The Sweeney’ Philip Glenister would make an excellent Jack Regan. Especially now Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes has finished.

After a quick Google I found this up for auction last year
A signed postcard showing a Lancaster bomber flying low over Old Warden Aerodrome, signed by various Lancaster crew, including Bill Reid V.C., and Rear Gunner Howie Wing.
It sold for £80

Pretty sure thats what it says on the blurb on the back. I will have to dig it out to confirm. But on a careful look the Lanc isnt set up for a landing as there is hardly any flaps showing. Surely so low there would be full flap set.

As is the H2S radome, cracking model and pic! As regards the original post I also have this pic as sent to me on a Christmas Card and IIRC is of the BBMF Lanc landing at a rather misty Old Warden – Perfect shot, could quite easily be 1943/44 and returning from a mission over Germany. I scanned mine and is now my desktop pic.

Wonder if there are any large bombs like Grand Slams lying around anywhere?
God i hope not.!!
*shudders* at the thought of a grand slam sized bomb lying round ready to blow with the thoughts of the one that was on Scamptons gate all those years still live!
Martin
I didn’t see all of it, WWI not being my bag, however, the last half hour I did see made me wish I had seen all of it!
will wait for the rerun
Baz
It is available on 4OD (C4s iPlayer) if you wish to watch the whole thing as I am doing now

one of the forumites on here, Lancman, is restoring Bluebird K7 so he may be of help. There is a thread in the Historic forum

I’m pretty sure these holes are of ‘cannon’ calibre. IIRC I’d be surprised if a 7.62 would penetrate the plate I saw.
Was there any Ju 88 raids on Lossie, they had cannons didn’t they?
From Wikipedia
Armament
Guns:
up to 7 × 7.92 mm MG 15 or MG 81 machine guns, some of them replaced or augmented by
1 × 20 mm MG FF cannon (central nose mount or forward ventral position)
1 × 13 mm MG 131 machine gun (mounted dorsal and/or ventral rear positions)

Heads up its on tonight according to the ads and the EPG so there is hope they got it right this time :diablo:

Sort of thread drift, but were XV147 and XV148’s remains scrapped at Warton a few years back? I know the nose of 148 survives and is a restoration project.
Yes XV147 was scrapped in 2002/3 at Warton shortly before 13 Hangar it was in was demolished.

Classic clip. Captain Mainwaring with his mannerisms always reminds me of my old Air Cadet CO :diablo:

I was even more of a Dads Army geek last year – went into Thetford to find the street where they filmed the infamous episode with Hugh Madoc as the U-Boat captain, and Cpl Jones with the bomb down his trousers.
It was Philip Madoc as the U-Boat captain but a classic episode all the same.

Can’t remember our DIs name, but I can picture him – short, stocky with a crew cut!
Sounds like one of my DIs in 1991 Cpl Jock Meston
