Manser, Nettleton, Leroy (not sure I spelt that right) Chesire….?

It was Learoyd block,my home April/May 91 Cheshire block was one of the newer high rise blocks in the middle of the domestic site along with Gibson block opposite the Newcomers Club and Reid Block behind the Med Centre and the Junoir Ranks Mess.

There was Ward block down the bottom and allegedly haunted

I don’t remember the Vampire gate guard though

Th Vampire was sat opposite the Main gate on the technical site in between SHQ and the Guardroom

Before `elf and safety got involved I used to go down the skips every weekend and they were ok about you taking stuff out in exchange for the odd quid for the coffee jar.I`m suprised they let her take them as last time I went down there some bloke was getting a load of original Star Wars toys out of his boot to skip.I asked if I could have them and the skip guy said they were not allowed any more and smashed the stuff up in front of me !!

At our local skips they have two 20ft ISO containers for stuff that can be resold, Ive picked up a couple of gems of furniture from there. They are pretty lax as regards to stuff going from car to car as long as you dont start climbing in the skips themselves.

    Nice find BTW!

That truck weighs up to 40 tons. Believe me, the driver wouldn’t feel a thing.

It isn’t the first time this has happened and it won’t be the last. When you’re sitting in something like an artic tractor unit or an 18/26 tonner you’re usually sitting a good few feet back from the windscreen, so in a lot of vehicles it would be impossible to see a car in that position. It’s far more likely to be the guy in the car driving like a moron than the truck driver being careless. Your horn would come in very handy stuck to the front of a truck like that!

Found this from an australian tv company filming a documentary about road safety

I thought I had seen it all, now this! 😮 The mentality of some drivers amazes me!

AT least he can’t be accused of leaving the scene of the accident – he took it with him!:dev2:

John D Collins who played one of the ‘escapees’ in Allo Allo aslo starred in its insipration Secret Army as Inspector Paul Delon, the character parodied as Crabtree in Allo Allo!

Hilary Minster had a regular part in both series too, both as German officers. General Klinkerhoffen (Allo Allo!) and Hauptmann Muller (Secret Army) Richard Marner who played Von Strohm in Allo Allo! also guest starred in Secret Army too.

Dont know if this counts, but the tv series Secret Army is very good 🙂

It certainly does count. Gerard Glaister was an ex RAF Pilot and a veteran of over 100 missions. The character of John Curtis was based on the series technical consultant, Group Capt William S Randall and all the scripts were based on real events and researched. In fact some were rejected for being too accurate for fear of upsetting the audience. IIRC the Kessler character was loosely based on Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie.

Secret Army was later parodied in Allo Allo!

Just a thought. would the weight of the aircraft settling into the water not cause more and more drag as its airspeed drops off thus slowing it quicker?

Before we embark upon any extensive programme to get her to flying condition I would hope that some sort of study could be made into this very question, afterall the last thing any of us would want is to have a smiliar situation to the vulcan.

Does anyone have an approximate cost for the BBMF/CWH lancasters? I would have thought that a shack would be similar (ish)

I would have thought she would have a pretty good chance of getting bookings with lower(?) fees on running costs alone compared to the Vulcan particularly on fuel consumption. I seem to remember being told or read somewhere that a Lanc uses 200gals/hr(?) at cruise. I dread to think the fuel consumption of the tin triangle. I would guess the Shack would be around the same.

Pagen01, I didn’t mean to say you were knocking Ben, apologies that I did. Unfortunately I couldnt think of a better phrase to use.

I know all too well the lack of money around at the moment having been made redundant from my last two jobs due to insolvency and downsizing respectively. I applaud Ben for his vision and enthusiasm for the whole project. It was my intention to use those examples to show that anything is possible and we should never say never. The Historic aviation world is full of people who work so hard against all odds to keep these magnificent machines alive and with it the memory of those that flew them.

It will take a lot of hard work both physically and financially especially these days. but maybe one day……..

I wished I had more money and didnt live about as far south as you can get is this country without getting your feet wet. but I do wish Ben and his team the very best of luck with this project
