East Kikby was used for the BBC film Night Flight using Just Jane

The squadron of T6s in luftwaffe markings in ‘The Great Escape’, were no german aircraft available apart from the Bestmann, it was after all filmed near Munich. Excellent film otherwise
One gaff that does annoy me is in The dam busters. After all the work to modify the lancasters, why on earth could they not repaint the Wellington and Tiger moth? Spoils an otherwise fantastic movie.
Didn’t Know there was a Tiger Moth in DB? Which scene was that?

There was a design in the 80’s for an advanced fighter that was similar to the Typhoon known as the A.C.A. It was supposed to enter service in the 1990s but due to political wrangling one of the countries involved pulled out (France?) and the design evolved into the EAP then the Typhoon. IIRC the original was very similar in design to the Typhoon but with a twin fin arrangement which the country that pulled out was to build.
I have a PR sticker of it somewhere which had the legend ‘ACA European Combat Aircraft for the 1990s’

I think it was in the Eagle Has Landed, Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood were on the side of a mountain looking down on a Castle or something occupied by the Germans and a Bell 47g flies over them enroute to the castle. I don’t believe Helicopters were even really invented during WW2 were they?:D
That was ‘Where Eagles Dare’

Lee on Solent based Harvard out for a stooge yesterday at about 1400
I have an exhaust valve from one of PA474s Merlins which was given to me by WO Barry Sears as a thank you after I spent a week with the BBMF whilst on Air Cadet summer camp at Coningsby in June 1985

The ‘Spitfire’ wasn’t the first Triumph to have an aircraft name. There was also the car the Spitfire was based on, the Herald which IIRC was an airliner built by Handley Page.
How about the Ford/North American Mustang admittedly both named after the wild horse. Also SAAB are always telling us their cars have an aviation pedigree as they are usually advertised with a Viggen or a Gripen.
Any other aviation/motoring links?

your wish is my command!
Thats the one! Excellent pic by the way:)
I like the idea.
Well, I like the idea of erecting a Spitfire memorial.
Although personally I would prefer something similiar to the Gloster E28/39 mounted on the roundabout, I would be glad to see a Spitfire themed ‘Angel of the South’ as opposed to some modern, unidentifiable twisted lump of ‘art’.
Just my personal view. Can be shared at no cost.

Ther is already a Replica Prototype Spitfire mounted like ths at the roundabout for the airport at Eastleigh and can be see travelling Eastbound on the M27 past J5. Unfortunately I am at the other end of the country so I cant get a pic of it

Was RF398 later ferried to Cosford or was it dis-assembled and trucked there?
regards
Mark Pilkington
The article states she was trucked there. She was kept servicable at Henlow and frequently ground run and taxied until 30 Oct 63 where she was mothballed. Circa Aug 65 she had her tailwheel exchanged with PA474 then under restoration. She went into storage at Cosford in 1968 after being on static display at the RAF 50th anniversary Royal Review.

The Information I posted was taken from a feature flypast did last year on WW2 Forgotton Bombers with a cery good article on the history of RF398.
In it, it mentions RF398 flew the penultimate RAF Lincoln flight on 30 April 1963 from Watton to Henlow. It goes on to say the last RAF Lincoln flight was possibly carried out by RF461 on 18 or 19 June 1963 from 27 MU Shawbury to 23MU Aldergrove.
