Blimey, I can see that the magic and romance of cinema is alive and well in this thread…
Personally I believe there’s a world of difference between watching a dvd and experiencing a presentation on the big screen. Long may it continue, even if I do have to support the cause by indulging in a large Westlers hot dog and a diet coke…:D
There have been several films I have seen at the cinema that have kinda lost their magic a little on the small screen. Star Wars, Platoon, Top Gun, Titanic, and many others
The thing that puts me off going to the cinema these days is ignorant people who feel the need to eat in the cinema and try to eat as noisy as possible thus ruining the experience for the rest of us. It was so nice to go and see The Dam Busters last year and thoroughly enjoy the experience after only seeing it on the small screen without some numpty with their bag of sweets or crisps behind me ensuring all I can hear is every mouthful of their food.

A bad choice of words on my part. I am well aware of the roles and capabilities of the Herc, I was even priviledged to get a ride in one on a training exercise doing such drops many years ago. It is possible someone complained at the dangerously low level with so many people in the ‘Drop Zone’, the outcome could have been a lot worse.

hers one of a swedish C130 flying a bit low. Aparrently the Pilot was grounded after this stunt.

I wish I still had my 1976 Triumph 2000 Mk2, lovely drive and robust too. Once drove it from Stockport to RAF Newton then home to Blackpool with no clutch hydraulics
Also my Ford Granada Mk2 2.5 diesel went everywhere in that.

The advice of joining your local ATC squadron is best at this time, I am an instructor with the ATC and your local squadron is 424 at Solent Sky or if you live near the airport you could try 1216 at Eastleigh. Try Hampshire and IOW Wing website to find a unit closest to you.

I’ve trawled thru this thread quick………
Looks like no-one’s mentioned ‘Band Of Brothers’ with (actual) filming done at North Weald to represent ‘RAF Upottery’ (the ’embarkation’)…….
I was lucky enough to be on the set !
see post 23

One of the crap Roger Moore ones (Octopussy?)at Upper Heyford with loads of F111 about to be destroyed by a nuke hidden in a circus cannon.
Northolt appears in a lot of the old late 1940, early 1950s involving any sort of flying. I like to look at the old “seiko hut” Terminal building and recognising them from when I was there in the early 80’s before they knocked them down.
Raf Lakenheath as well as Upper Heyford and RAF Northolt were also used as the US airbase in Octopussy according to IMDB the also mention RAF Oakley as a location for the fly through scene.
RAF Lakenheath was also used in Tomorrow Never Dies,
RAF Northolt also ‘starred’ Goldfinger, The World Is not Enough, The Lavender Hill Mob (1951) and The Life and Death of Peter Sellers (2004)
RAF Upper Heyford was used in Children of Men (2006)

Dunsfold is home to BBCs Topgear and was used in Casino Royale (2006) as Miami Intl.
If money was no object top of my list would have to be Paul Portellis Chipmunk ex WP896 as it was the first aircraft I ever flew in as a 13 yr old Air Cadet. Would love a trip in her again
then it would be a Bell 222 eggbeater built like Airwolf as the original is sadly no longer with us.

The Hangar scene in Lara Croft – Tomb Raider was filmed in 18 Sqns hangar at RAF Odiham
