There was also a couple of episodes in ‘Secret Army’ which featured a Lysander which ‘appeared’ to land (just a short hop probably), taxy in, unload a passenger, then depart (just a fast taxy down the grass). Excellent series, now available on DVD!!!

Yes! I remember Secret Army there was a spin off called ‘The Fourth Arm’ which used a DC3/C47 in its opening/closing credits.

Shame Secret Army was never repeated but I suppose nobody would take it seriously after the huge success of ‘Allo Allo’. Glad its out on DVD

Wasn’t there an appearance by a Tornado in a very short-lived ITV series as well?

The ITV series IIRC was called ‘STRIKE FORCE’ and never went further than the pilot (GROAN) episode.

Does anyone remember a one off done by the BBC filmed in the ’90s I think called ‘Over Here’ with Martin Clunes and Samuel West. It featured a B17 (SallyB?) and a Spitfire (MH434?) and there may have been Me109 Black 6 and Hans Dittes G10 involved too but I could be wrong.

Perusing the web earlier I found this article in the Middleton Guardian about the Blackpool Vulcan so hopefully something could be done for her but I think if she was moved now in her state she will just break up anyway

is the Vulcan at Blackpool still there?. last time i saw this aircraft (about 15 – 18 years ago) she was in very poor condition, tyres all flat, oleos compressed battered, and faded paint. if she is still there what state is she in now?. (or is it best not to know 🙁 )

Up until moving south due to work commitments 6 months back I used to live in Blackpool and used to pass the Vulcan on my way to work and she is in a worse state than she was when you last saw her, she has now been fenced off completely and been apparently left to the elements. some of the windows have disappeared and a lot of the panels and the paintwork are in a sorry state. I have heard that her owner Brian Bateson will not sell her despite a number of bids for her.

How about Steven Speilberg and tom hanks getting together and dramatising the book ‘Wild Blue(?)’ by stephen Ambrose who also did ‘Band of Brothers’. if they put as much effort and attention to detail as in Band of Brothers it would be a cracker.

I myself have seen WT555 perched on the Vanguard roof, it looks as though one or two panels have diappeared off it though

Lovely idea, and I understand that it was a serious possibility at one stage, but unfortunately it’s unlikely to happen now due to costs. Apparently the CWH Lanc flies just a fraction of the BBMF Lanc’s hours annually anyway due to the costs involved in operating it, so any transatlantic deployment is sadly out of the question.

We all know this will never happen Steve but as this is a hypothetical discussion with ‘money no object’ I would also love to see the Canadian Lanc fly over here and also get ‘Just Jane’ airworthy for the remake of ‘The Dam Busters’! 😀

😡 but one thing that really does irritate me is when people refer to the BBMF Lanc as PA747, ITS NOT ‘PA747’ 😡 😡 😡 , Her serial is PA474!!!!!!!! PLEASE GET IT RIGHT FOLKS!!!!!! Sorry for the gripe

What about PA474, shes done a lot of hours on the display circuit (ok its cheating as its not in the spirit of the question you asked 🙂 )

she only does 50-100 hours a year, she will have accrued most of her hours when she flew as a test bed at cranfield, interesting question though

IIRC a couple of the airframes are converted Comet 4C airframes – one of the reasons they are struggling with the new wings for the MRA4, I may be wrong though

Harvard IIB KF183 is or should still be in use with the RAF/Qinetiq at Boscombe Down.

The harvard is not on the front line though
