Just as a matter of interest what effect on the local workforce has the selling of Westland Helicopters to Agusta had? I was worried about that but has any work been shifted out of the UK as a result of this sale? I’m not pleased that the UK is effectively dropping out of Airbus I was proud that the UK had a prominent role in it but what really is the likelyhood that work will be moved out of the UK as a result of this? That said when it comes to shareholders, just how British is BAE Systems anyway?

Come on guys all those points that u pointed out is what makes this forum interesting. It dosent make it dull and drab and put you in a straightjacket like most other forums do. Oh I know it does get out of hand sometimes. But its freedom of speech and expression . Ist that the reason the Americians go about invading and bombing those so called oppressed countries 😉
I think the problem is though that with too many people, the red mist comes down and they start to type.
I think that if we were all sitting in a pub then some of the things that make people go bananas on a forum would just be laughed at and the banter would continue. But there is too much misunderstanding on a forum. You can’t see peoples expressions, there is no body language and people are always ready for a fight especially when two different countries are involved.
If people read a thread and instead of typing straight away, they went away and really put some though into what they wanted to say there would be no need for the suggestion Archibaald has made. First you have to calm down, then you have to decide wether or not it is even worth posting a reply but most important af all, if you are going to reply anyway, you have taken some time to think about it and it is likely to make more sense and less likely to be misunderstood.

It bugs me that they decided not to take the radars from the Sea Harriers and put them in the Gr.9s … until the F35 comes along our carrier capability is severely reduced.
Thats exactly what I was thinking.

A most uninspiring display.
The crowd obviously believed they were going to see a crash and it’s difficult to believe that such a close pass was planned.
The two seater is rather ugly. The Hornet which some here claim lacks “characture” whatever that term is supposed to mean when applied to an aircraft  is positively graceful in comparison.
Sauron
Ah. A troll trying to be drole. Spelling anyone.

I though it had two CIWS. One on one side is plain stupid. Still this is the same country that gave you the charge of the Light Brigade and tried to axe manned fighters in the 1960s. Please tell me we’ve learnt something from history.

I know.
Just to say that the EJ200 has been optimized for high altitude.
I am sticking my neck out here but I thought the by-pass on the EJ200 was variable. Like the man said, the core technology has moved on a long way since the RB199. This is one of the reasons that the Tornado ADV was a relative failure. The British government skimped on funding and the thing got saddled with low level bomber engines strapped to oversized afterburners.
Phil 🙂
Hi folks,
I’m once again looking for some guidance/advice on a project I’m doing. Assuming a dry thrust of 17,500lbf and afterburning thrust of 27,000lbf for the EJ200, how would I be able to calculate (or estimate) the thrust output of the engine for all altitudes (sea level to say 50,000ft)? Essentially I am looking for T/T0 as a function of altitude. Are there any formulas or estimators that can be used to approximate thrust vs. altitude? I realize there are lots of factors (such as density, etc.) that come into play, but an estimator will do.
In addition, I am looking for a model for SFC as a function of power, speed & altitude for the same engine.
I would appreciate any and all the help I can get. Thanks in advance!
I am assuming this is hypothetical?

You see its not IDs that I have trouble with, rather the reasons that the government give as a reason for introduction.
They said (amongst other things) that the rise in ‘home grown’ terrorism could be countered by the use of ID cards and this makes me suspicious. We dealt with a ‘home grown’ terrorist threat for over 30 years in the form of the IRA (those with British passports made full use of them and free travel between the two islands plus many cells on the mainland) and ID cards were not introduced then. So why now all of a sudden?
Like I said. I am not suspicious of ID cards but I am suspicious of the governments real intentions. Don’t forget that although Belgian ID cards are not tracking systems, not too far into the future ID cards could be made to do just that, we have the technology, to coin a phrase and I wouldn’t put it past the British government to go further down the ‘Big Brother’ road than European ID cards do now.
Also how many people are already here illegally? ID cards will only keep an eye on those who are here legitimately or if you want to be cynical, those who are already controlled. How will we issue ID cards to people we don’t even know exist? I do accept however the proof of identity issue with regards to various services.
It all sounds like a conspiracy theory I know but if they want to keep a close eye on us we should reciprocate. You can’t just let them have exactly what they want, when they want it or how they want it. They have to be checked and balanced.

I think its not just the UK but I’m no expert. I think people come to places like Britain because places like Britain are reasonably safe, stable and prosperous. In the main people just want what everybody wants a peice of that safety, stability and prosperity. A few deserve contempt but so do many native Britons (yes Sauron its Britons, not Britains at least try to get it right.)
And just to balance things out I am still British and I still owe my loyalty to the Union Flag 😉 . Go on ya ******s. Bite.
